So! This is the poster I mentioned.
First off, they're up for sale now at FurPlanet right here <3. They're 11"x17", printed professionally at a commercial print house on super heavy-duty card stock, and they look amazing. All bias aside, hehe. They're selling for $18 US (which is basically nothing these days! Thanks economy!!!)
I'm also posting close-ups of the two figures into my scraps here. We've got Bastian the smartypants literati, and Clyde, who's more of a Maserati, if you know what I mean. He's got a good heart -- he just keeps it in his pants.
If anybody has questions about the image, ask away -- if you have questions specifically about buying stuff from FurPlanet's site or about shipping and whatnot, you should ask the folks there, as I won't know the answers >_<
Anyway, I hope folks like it, tell your friends, and thanks in advance to anybody who picks one up online or at any of the upcoming cons FurPlanet will be at! You guys are awesome <3

Hey, congrats on a new house! And yeah, I really wanted to do something that wouldn't look weird hanging in a non-furry space. There's totally nothing wrong with hanging furry art over the mantle, but I respect that some folks prefer not to, and I really think there's no reason why furry art can't also work as mainstream art.
And no it is YOU who have a KTHX for BUYING THIS WEEKEND KTHX.
The flowers were fun! I actually *gasp* drew them on PAPER with a PENCIL and scanned it in. Digital linework so owns me, haha. And type is always <3 as far as I'm concerned.
YAY.

*Chuffs loudly*...handsome boycats in fancy clothes = drooling tiger.

And dude, SAME. This will likewise fit in very well at my place.
Huge gushing faggot, you? Clearly, there has been some miscommunication between us. :|
There was something else I was going to hang in my office--I'd forgotten what it was...*prods the moving dalmatian incessantly*...might there be something taking up space in your trunk that you need to get rid of? ^^;

This must've been confusing for you since I was responding positively to the art while greeting a friend at the same time!
He graciously got me something else to hang in my office as a gift, but I haven't received it yet. Although, through the transcendent powers of suggestions coupled with male felids, I just may buy two and put one in the office and the other in the apartment. -^^-

Too many good things to say about this poster :e
Totally love the scarf on the bottom and his hand resting on his neck. Spots on the felines (esp. deciding to include it on the wrist**) nicely done
I adore the flower/viney flourish across the page - the flow of the tendrils/whatnot are balanced and the linework is superb. I'd hate to mask something like that across the image but it pays off :>
It's easy for someone to say "love your color palette", but I guess I'd have to agree in this case :o limiting the hues = calmer atmosphere -> appropriate considering the context. Also gradient in back was a nice choice.

Dude, that means a lot, from you <3 And yeah, I've kinda sworn off cats with complex markings for a while after this one ^_^ It was fun, but kiiind of painful.
The flowers were fun to do! Not my usual thing, both content-wise, and because I actually just drew them out on paper then scanned and composited them in. I wanted it to look like graphics pasted on the inside of the front window of the bar, offering a cutaway view of the folks inside that juuust perfectly framed the action as their eyes met. Hopefully it's not just like WHOA FOLIAGE EXPLOSION WTF.
And I tried SO MANY palettes with this one, haha. It was brown, it was red, it was eight different blues... I was fortunate to get good feedback from some other artist-types, and I think it worked out well enough in the end ^_^

Thanks, dude! It's always interesting trying to figure out a good balance of animal traits versus human traits in faces for more realistically rendered pieces like this one. I don't want to go too cartoonish, but I also want to avoid the whole "animal head pasted on a human body" thing, too... It's a lot of guesswork each time, but hopefully it worked out to a decent balance this time around ^_^
To be fair, they're a bit less minute when you see the thing at full 11"x17" size ^_^
I knew I needed to add some really fine-grain detail to it if I didn't want it to look goofy as a poster print, so I kind of went nuts with all the whiskers and fur and textures, none of which you can see at all in this little pic of it 9_9

DUDE. this is raddd!!
i love how the heads you draw are essentially how they are on the real animal, but you make them so human-y and full of expression AND I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT.
it'd be interesting to see what it looks like on a wall - get someone who buys one to take a picture of it in their house!
i love it!! <3 <3 <3

Yeah, or you could just BUY ONE AND LOOK AT IT ON YOUR WALL.
Hehe, but that said, anybody who does wind up picking one up and hanging it, feel free to link a photo here! Always fun to see art in context ^_^
And it's kind of amazing just how subtle human facial expression really is -- trying to get a tiger to smile provocatively is a really good way to learn just what muscles are doing what in the face ^_^

Wow, dude, that's nice of you to say. It's kind of funny for me to look at it at this size, just because so much of the detail and texture get lost when it gets shrunk way down. It was fun working at 11"x17" for a change, and the printed posters turned out looking really nice, so I'm pretty satisfied.
Hey, there's nothing wrong with a shameless pinup <3 You should be shameless about it!
I just started to get tired of doing the figure-floating-in-space thing by default because I couldn't do backgrounds. Starting to practice with backgrounds then made me more conscious of the entire scene, rather than just the figures, and now I'm really enjoying the extra bit of narrative that gives a picture.
But I still do figures floating in space when I'm feeling lazy <3
And yeah, dude, any time. If you draw up some cute boys doing something cute, I'll paint it!

*invites self along*
also, my offer of farm visitation still stands. i know you're carless, but if the hustle and bustle ever gets too silly and you wanna head for the hills let me know and we'll make the necessary arrangements. my future farm is in Joanna Newsom's home town... i'm sure that's at least a little enticing! fanboys unite!
i'm getting real reckless with my punctuation tonight. i think i need a breather.

Thanks! It's always a fun challenge to put across subtle expressions with non-cartoony animal heads, because there's only so much you can distort it before it just looks wrong ^_^
And they're both boys! Hehe, I'm just a homo. I'm all for folks interpreting my stuff as they will, though, and like I say, with the more realistic animal heads, they do wind up pretty androgynous-lookin'.

haha agreed sorry i thought tufted meant male and non tufted. anyways i can't tell X D thank you for explaining and sorry about that .
again this is beautiful and your right about the realistic animal heads you did such a wonderful job on making them non cartoony and expressive : } and thank you for explaining : } take care.

I think that increasingly the lines between graphic design and illustration are blurring. I've seen what I'd pretty much consider a 50/50 blend being called one or the other, and the whole thing just leaves me questioning whether there's really any reason for the artificial distinction at all ^_^
Having been previously employed in a cafe, and toiled about on a Hawaiian coffee farm I would consider myself a crazy coffee fiend. I am also a rabid fan of furry art because I love biology. Thus this sophisticated and respectful image gives me great joy by catering to two powerful interests of mine. Many thanks unto you kamui and your amazing brain and steady hand. You have done the fuzzy ones justice. May the muse continue to smile upon you.
gah! in my sporadic internetitude i totally missed this gem. what fun! i love the leopard's aw-shucks neck rub. what a sweetheart! and beautiful haberdashery as well. and the corrugated tin. and the flowers! drawn by hand!? on paper!? i thought you'd grown allergic to woodpulp! i can't wait til i have a wall that's not a)my car window or b) canvas
if you're game, next time I'm in SF we should spend an afternoon window shopping around union square. I'll grab my waistcoat and one of (!!nevada city thrift stores are treasure troves!!!) my vintage YSL ties and we'll get fabulous. last time in town i was trying on $4000 jackets at john varvatos and the salesman (total hunk, and well-dressed, natch) offered to bring me a stella. WELL HELL YEAH! stylin and profilin'

Oh god, my big Christmas gift to me last December was a red leather Varvatos vest <3 <3 <3 That store is so dangerous...
But yeah, insane customer service. They totally didn't have my size, so I was ready to be like OH WELL and leave with my bank account intact. The floor manager comes by, says he likes how it fits in the shoulders and length, and summons forth their house tailor, Dmitri, to take my measurements for a custom tailoring job 9_9 On the house, of course. So I sipped my champagne and went home, and a week later went in and picked up a vest that fits me like a glove <3
Any time you want to go window shopping, you let me know ^_^

it is SO a date. cocktails at Michael Mina in the St. Francis?
i'm dropping comments all over your gallery, so don't feel obliged t respond to em all .i know you like to be thorough with your responses, which I admire. you should catch a glimpse of my real-life rabbit headphones, though, if you haven't...

They're pretty fly ^_^
And woo~ for comments <3 Plus the new mid-format printer I got should be good news for your first non-car, non-canvas wall. It prints up to 13"x44", although the availability of photo paper basically limits that to 13"x19". Still preeeetty rad ^_^

It's an inkjet, so it prints on anything that you can feed through it, but it usually gets the best results on paper that's been chemically treated to accept inkjet ink. You can buy anything from glossy photo paper to cotton-rag art paper that's been pre-treated for use specifically with this printer, so it's not too bad, selection-wise. With anything else (like hand-made japanese paper with gold thread), you'd just have to try and see <3
I have yet to test it out, but yeah, I'm stoked ^_^
Haha, and at one point last night, I was like, "4000 dollar jacket, huh? Which one was... Ohhhh, right." The dark brown horse hair number, right? That thing was amaaaaazing @_@ But (thankfully) apparently even I have my limits <3

I'm disappointed in myself for not having this in my favorites list. I could've sworn it was in there but I guess not. :P
It is now. I love the mix of painted figures along with the very conformed lines of the plants. I'm a little confused because in your nifty art book you said you were not very good at making lines, and yet here is this peioce with stunning line work!

Yay, thanks! And I'm not really good with lines in the sense that it takes me forever to do anything reasonable-looking with lines, whereas I can throw down some quick paint and have something that looks decent in an hour or two.
These lines took a fair bit of time -- I actually drew them out in pencil on paper, then scanned that in. The lines on the dachshund brushing his teeth piece I drew took foreeever because on that one I just did the linework from scratch directly in Photoshop, which tends to be super time-consuming.
