Earlier this month, I was lamenting the lack of Sushi in my life. To cheer me up Rantingmule made me a very thoughtful gift, a picture of Farfalla enjoying some Sushi.

I found the idea so delightful I wanted to explore it further. So I drew Farfalla sitting at what I hope looks like an authentic Japanese table, enjoying some Sushi. Initially I toyed with the idea of dressing Farfalla like a geisha, but that really clashed with how I think of her. So instead, I gave her a middle eastern inspired belly dancing outfit. And she has her very own little lap Kirin eagerly awaiting a tidbit.

I really experimented with the coloring here as well and went for a more muted color palette. Also made copious use of textures. I wasn’t sure it was going to work, but in the end it seemed to come together nicely.
