Spike's crush on Rairity is kind of an innocent "child has a crush on their older babysitter/teacher" kind of thing, so I highly doubt that the writers of the show would let it go anywhere beyond kind of a reoccurring joke because if it got more serious things would get kind of squicky. So I absolutely agree with you when you say that Spike ultimately crushing on Sweetie Belle would make more sense. With that said, there is a trope on TVTropes.org called "Settle For Sibling," and that describes a few different ways that the writers could choose to have Spike eventually fall for the younger more age-appropriate Sweetie Belle instead. There are positive ways, such as Spike starting to notice more and more of Sweetie Belle's virtues over time while visiting Rarity and eventually falling for Sweetie Belle instead, or there are negative ways like Spike deciding that Sweetie Belle is some sort of consolation prize since he can't have Rarity. Since Spike and Sweetie Belle were shown dancing together during the royal wedding reception at the end of season 2, and that could foreshadow something, it would be interesting to see where the writers of the show will take this if they bother to touch upon it at all.
Look at me over-analyzing a children's show on a Saturday night-- you can tell that I have a life! LOL!
Oh, and by the way, an awesome art piece as usual, PrettyPinkPony! Your artwork is always amazing!

ha ha I enjoyed that so... I like Over-analyzing too... This may be off topic but I really start to despise people praising Xenoblade Chronicles more over The Last Story. The Last Story got me more emotionally invested than Xenoblade... Sure it was a short JRPG but it told the story so damn well. Xenoblade frustrated me because the combat system was archaic and you can change fate but really the game pulls a 180 on you with story bosses so much so its total bullshit (Unexpected Criticals). And the AI is the fucking worst!!!! It spams all its skills to think its really being smart wasting all its abilities just so they can "save" your team but in reality it ruins the team... Which is why I played sharla by myself because I knew how to play her (Btw its the best thing shes a support that shoots bullets of damage and healing and buffing... I dont think that was ever a thing before so I give them props for that originality) because I didnt suffer the consequences of cool downs because I actually knew what I was doing. Yes I played through to the last level and gave up and gave it to a friend that would appreciated more... Yes it was challenging but not the good kind. The Last Story was quite easy but it had challenges here and there but your actions actually meant something, and the AI can handle itself pretty well! Best part is... THE FINAL BOSSES WAS SATISFYING!!! You had to deal with so much crap... I cant spoil much because its best you play it for yourself!!! So anywho, I give props to Hironobu Sakaguchi who actually followed action oriented combat correctly and did the story spot on. Sorry but Xenoblade was fun at first but then it became a grind like FF7 did..
