It was a Saturday morning and the two friends were waiting next to the subway station. They had plans with their other roommates to go to catch a musical. At first it was a struggle for the four of them to decide on one thing. But after a few screams, tears and a bit of blackmailing they decided on this.
"He better not be late this time." Lacie said tapping her foot on the ground as she waited impatiently. Yue just laughed at her friend's comment. She was used to Helios running late when they planned group meet ups. It has been four months since Howell and he moved into their home for the college's exchange program. And so far they were known to get into trouble when the four of them met up. The last time was when Yue and Howell got into an argument over the idea of fate, which led to her dumping her lunch on his head. And in turn lead to him getting revenge and painting on her face later that same day. "I don't get why you actually think he will show up on time." Yue said smiling as she watched Lacie fix her outfit. Yue couldn't help but think her friend was showing a cute side to her. Usually she overlooked the males in the school as common. But once Helios came into the picture she actually tries to get his attention, which is a shocking thing.
Lacie was wearing a jean overall skirt with a tight long sleeved black and white striped shirt. She finished her outfit was finished with a black bowler hat and a key necklace she made in welding class. "Because this time he promised he will show." Lacie said to her best friend, ignoring her teasing. "He just. He won't notice me no matter what I do and it's frustrating." She admitted glaring at how he ignored her as if she was invisible whenever she tried to get his attention. "Well you did ignore him first…." Yue started but caught herself when her friend glared at her. 'If looks could kill.' Yue thought to herself. "And even if you came with me, why are you dressed so cute?" Lacie said then smirked when she saw Yue start to squirm. Lacie took in her friends outfit as she circled her, fully catching all the details. She was wearing an pink and navy floral romper with a dark jean jacket. Her hair was down in loose curls with a navy headband resting on the top of her head. "I d-don't know what you are getting at missy. I just d-didn’t want you to dress up alone." Yue stammered as she played with the star charm on her bracelet.
"Me thinks you protest too much." Yue smiled, hugging her friend for show her innocent side. "You are so cute you know that." Lacie cheered, "Wait til Howell sees you." Yue hang her head in shame, covering her blushing face. 'Why does she have to say his name?' Yue wondered to herself wanting to go into the deepest hole she can find. "I won't tease you anymore." Lacie said knowing when it was too much. Yue just nodded and bit her lower lip. She didn't even know when it happened. One minute she saw him as an obnoxious prick who always thought he could one up her. And the next he says sweet things about her art and gives her advice when she is under stress. "But I don't get it. I thought you said he was impossible to be around." Lacie said, picking up her purse to head into the nearby coffee shop so they could get something to drink while they wait. The two didn't talk for a bit as Yue ordered drinks for the group. She ordered the guys out of faith that they were actually close. Two went to sit near the window so the males could see them from the outside.
"He is." Yue said, breaking a piece of the croissant she bought off. "But it's like. He is doing it in the positive way now." She mumbled and groaned at how embarrassingly lame that sounded. "He is so infuriating. But it's not in a bad way anymore….I think." Lacie smiled as her friend confessed all these things to her. It has been so long since she seen her friend flustered over anything, let alone a guy. Yue focused on her croissant as Lacie took everything in. 'So she likes Howell.' She thought to herself, watching as her friend nervously ate. Looking outside every few seconds with a small smile coming on and off her face each time. "I think it is cute." Lacie said finally, watching for Yue's reaction. Her face was bright red as she nodded, a shy smile gracing her lips as she put down the other half of the pastry.
"Here you two lovelies are." Helios said as he entered the coffee shop, Howell in tow. The two females could only laugh at the common scene. It seemed that no matter where the two went eyes would follow them. And here was no different. Heck, once they sat down at the table the drinks Yue ordered were 'suddenly' ready and was brought to them. "You two can't go anywhere." Lacie teased, smiling right at Helios who was waving at the girls in the booth next to them. 'Punk.' She thought to herself as he dared to look over her. "You dress up nice Howell." Lacie said to the other male, smiling when he at least showed interest in their own table. Howell nodded although he didn't see his outfit as impressive enough to deserve compliments. He was wearing a pair of jeans with an tucked white dress shirt with rolled sleeved. Finishing his outfit he was wearing an open black vest. "Thanks." Howell said, drinking some of his Café Americano.
"Helios, are you sure you are hanging out with us?" Yue said sarcastically to the oldest member smiling when he just winked at her. Helios was wearing an jeans as well but he was wearing a black untucked button up with yellow and light green paint splatters design. "I am back now." He said jokingly turning to her, using his fingers to show he is making eye contact. "Focused." He said making the two females laugh at his joke, Howell just rolled his eyes. "You two look breath-taking." He said, finally noticing Lacie's outfit. Yue could feel her friend's joy at being noticed bounce off of her. She turned from the two and then looked towards Howell who was already looking at her. His direct eye contact was making her squirm. "I am surprised you came." Yue said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She blushed when she realized what she said could come off as rude. "Not that I was hoping you wouldn't come so I could be right." She said quickly, sighing at how what she just said seemed stupid to add on.
"Flustered by me being here?" Howell said with a smirk, this knocked Yue out of her shy state as she glared at the male. "You think I would get flustered by a cocky bastard like you?" She challenged, grabbing her napkin, ready to ball it up and use it as a weapon. Lacie gave her friend a sharp look causing her to drop it. "He is hard to deal with." Yue mumbled to no one in particular as she stared at her Café Mocha.
The group left the café after an hour and made their venture to the subway station. "So the show starts at five so we have to catch the Delta train to get there with thirty minutes to spare." Lacie said looking at the substation's map trying to pin down their best route. Helios whistled, impressed with her quick thinking. "You really got this down packed." he commented, resting his arm on her shoulder as he leaned on her to review her plan. She sighed and looked at the pair behind them. Yue was trying to take a picture of a bird that somehow made it into the station with her phone and Howell was watching her efforts. "Well Yue has no sense of direction and Mr. Moody probably has a route down but won't tell anyone." Yue puffed her cheeks in a childlike manner, unable to think of a response to what her friend just said. 'I only got lost seven times last month. That was the lowest amount yet.' she thought to herself.
"Come on they are leaving us." Howell said, bringing her back from her thoughts. Yue saw he was holding his hand out to her and gave him a confused look. "Come on." He grabbed her hand and walked her towards the direction the others went. "We don't want you to get lost." Yue didn't have to see his face to know he was smiling at his own statement. She didn't know what it was but for some reason it didn't bother her. 'It's that feeling again…' She thought to herself, finding herself smiling as well. The two hurried down the stairs towards the direction of where the sub was. Although the station was crowded Yue noticed they were smoothly sailing through the crowd without issue. "That's our sub." Howell said nearing the sub. He added a bit of speed, helping them make it onto the subway before it closed behind them. "Now where did the others go?" He did a full scan of the area and saw neither Lacie or Helios were on the subway. Once his eyes made it back to Yue he could already she was beginning to worry. Howell sighed and ran his paw through his hair.
"Don't worry." He told her, giving her his best attempt of a worry free smile. Yue absentmindedly nodded her head before turning to look out the window. While she was focused looking at the flashing lights go by them he sent a text to Helios asking where was he. Not even thirty seconds had passed before he got a reply.
'Ran into a lost kid and had to wait until their parent came. Wait for us there.'
Howell shook his head, he knew Helios was a sucker for helping lost children. He just didn't understand why he felt the need to help everyone. 'And what about her?' Howell asked himself, watching the smaller female beside him. He played out the outcomes on what was the best way to tell her the news. Even though they haven't known each other long he knew she was one to over worry and over imagine the worst situations. 'It is best to keep it to myself for now.' He decided. The subway shook a bit causing Yue to lose her footing. Before she could even try to catch herself she felt herself falling backwards. "Careful." Yue looked up and realized Howell had blocked her from falling backwards with his chest. 'He smells nice.' she found herself thinking while out loud the was at a loss for words. "I-I-I thanks." She said, blushing bright red at how she has made no attempt to stand properly yet. Quickly she separated from him, clutching the hem to her romper.
Howell stared at the back of her head. Usually he had a sarcastic remark ready for her but he couldn’t seem to bring himself to say one. 'She is lighter than I thought.' He thought to himself looking at his paw. He knew that she was the smallest one when all three of the females were together. But he didn't realize she was this small. "Are you ok though?" He asked her, making sure she didn't hurt herself. Yue nodded, not turning in his direction at all. Howell took his eyes off the back of her head and looked at the glass in front of them. 'I wonder…' He thought to himself and focused on trying to see if he could see a reflection of her face. Howell felt a smile growing on his face, it was almost as clear as day. Yue's face was beet red, she was biting her lower lip and squeezing her eyes shut. Howell suddenly felt proud of himself.
He didn't know when but somehow along the way he found it fun to bring out these reactions from the small female. When she would scowl at him when he gave snarky remarks to people who tried to enter their friendship circle. Puff her cheeks in that childlike manner he learned to adore when she was unable to respond to something. But his favorite was this. Watching her turn into a shy school girl in love. At least that is how he would like to think of it as. 'If she isn't in love with me…' He started but scoffed off the idea. Who else would be able to handle her? Others would probably spoil her or keep her over sheltered. He knew she was smart enough to handle the real world, but she would need someone there to carry her if she is pushed too hard. 'No one is better fit.' He thought to himself as he lifted up a few strands of her platinum hair. He noticed her stiffen and decided to stop himself from continuing his action. Slowly he let the hair travel from his palm back to where it was.
The two stood in silence for the next half an hour. It was a peaceful silence between the two, Howell not wanting to break the peacefulness between them and Yue enjoying his closeness. "We can rest on a bench nearby until they can find us." Howell whispered, he didn't know why but speaking in his regular tone seemed too loud at the moment. "You would have to hold my hand." Yue whispered back, Howell nodded. "Are you becoming spoiled from my kindness?" He asked her. Yue leaned back a bit. She didn't know how, but she knew he had moved closer to her during their silence. Or did she move closer to him? 'Jerk.' She thought to herself as she felt his left arm slowly draped onto her shoulder and his head rested on top of hers. "Hmm?" He asked her and just laughed when she started to mumble. "You have to say something always huh?" She whispered loud enough for him to hear. Howell made a sound of agreement, laughing more when she sighed loudly. "My taste in guys is questionable." Howell raised a brow and thought for a moment. "I was like that too but after some time you realize that your taste is perfect." He said, causing her to blush.
They stayed like this for another twenty minutes before the voice overhead announced they were nearing the station.
