Not a whole lot, maybe 2-3 pounds of small deer steak cuts and some hamburger meat made from deer. I did not purchase this so it does not cut into my 29 dollars I am allowed to buy food with. Is this ok to use or do you folks feel it is cheating the system? Let me know folks!

Ok, sorry that you are going through that, I know it is tough as I had several years where I struggled money wise but I never was on food stamps (damned pride and such). Mostly doing it now to raise awareness and to see if I can do it like millions of Americans are doing right now.

I'd say not to include it, it seems like it's cheating the system. not everyone on SNAP has friends who can give them free food! (and even if they do food banks thats usually small boxed meals or abysmal scant produce...)
the whole purpose of the SNAP challenge sounds like it's the experience what living on food stamps is like. There shouldn't be any working around it, it's simply finding out what you can do with that small amount of money, but most things should be bought as the challenge commences (as i was looking, basic spices sound like they'd be a fair pass. whole cuts of meat that were free doesn't. )

also yeah as i considered it and read above, few people strictly live on SNAP but i have a feeling the challenge is to express the pressure and challenge that living on very little money produces to give a greater understanding of what it's like to live that way, as a lot of people do. (at least many more than really should be living this way, i feel)

I agree, trying to set up my rules for the whole challenge right now and probably going to start next Monday to get things rolling. Gives me some time to plan and some time to figure stuff out.
Won't be using the deer meat but I figure things like spices are fair game based off replies so far.
