Inspired by the paintings by Arabella Campbell.
Musical references: Faust's "It's a Rainy Day Sunshine Girl", Neu!'s "Negativland", Captain Beefheart's "Pena", Don Cherry's "Mu", LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends".
Subtitle: "Polyhedra". A friend of mine described this song as "a Neu! song in its death throes"... Probably the best compliment any of my music has ever gotten. This is the only track that directly addresses the "Physical Facts" paintings. It tries to show the "supports" of the song, being the fuzz of the recording and the calling of takes. Although Campbell described her stuff as "Showing what painting hasn't shown" or something like that, bands like The Pixies, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, and lots of others have done stuff with studio banter, so it's not exactly a new deal; I also used very long takes with a somewhat "Sister Ray" type attitude to it (ie, if this doesn't work, it's going warts and all(except for a few false starts)). I also attempted to add many layers of synths to try to make "white noise" as Arabella adding layers of paint to make a flat white. I also attempted to replicate the minimalism and symmetry of the paintings by trying to balance out how the parts are placed in the channels. I don't think I succeeded really wholly on direct appropriation, but I am rather proud of this track as it stands.

Someone else said nearly the same thing about it. I was sort of talking with him on Skype while he was listening to it, and he just sort of tranced-out while listening to it, not really noticing what was going on until he snapped out of it. It's weird... XP
The last track is going to be like this one but half as long, probably without keyboards (but with "experimental percussion"), and with the layering done instead with chanted vocals.
