You know, it's about time I depicted Tanya in some other mood than stressed-out, frazzled, or bitchy. I think it's telling that I had to go to an almost ten-year-old pic to do it. As such, her attire bears some hallmarks of the year I drew this, from the bell-bottom jeans to the Timberlands and North Face jacket. Oh, and the humongous pupils I was drawing on my characters back then. I made some small fixes here and there, but decided to keep the style as it was in '99.
I believe this was from a group of pics for my (way outdated) personal website at http://railride.home.mindspring.com . In my art gallery there, each character had his/her own sub-section, with a representative pic of the character. The original intent was to change this pic with each season, much like FA's banner changes every month. So, this would have been part of the winter series.
I found the inks of this rather old (penciled 12/14/1999) pic in a folder of stuff, and decided to scan it and throw on a quickie color job just to have something to post. Problem was that Tanya here looked like she was going to fall over. She was supposed to have an exaggerated hip sway to balance her pose, but somehow, she still looked unbalanced. Thus, she needed to look like she was holding on to something, hence the handrail and a whole vector-style digitally-drawn commuter-train station backdrop. As originally drawn, this pic wasn't supposed to have a backdrop, so it took awhile to shoehorn all that in.
Along the way I made an attempt to address another recurring issue with my work. Many of my pics are unusually bright and primary-color-ish (my opinion). I think that inteferes with the march toward artistic improvement, so I intentionally toned down the color selection to look more like a cloudy day.

I did a lot of "model sheet" pics from the late 1980's to well into the '90's and if FA enacts a folder system under Ferrox, I might upload the old stuff to show how they stayed in lockstep with local fashions over the years.
I'm gonna be drawing skinny jeans all over again :D
