This is "Let the River Run" as arranged by Craig Hella Johnson, and performed by Carly Simon. This piece has an interesting story as to why I am performing in it. This was actually a recording gig that turned into performing. I was recording this high school choir's concert, and then was asked by one of the directors if I would jump in for a percussion part, knowing I'm also a percussionist. I reluctantly agreed as I did not rehearse this once! I had never even heard the piece before the performance. The performance itself was the first time I saw the music though it wasn't too bad, I kept it together. I am playing Cabasa and Bass Drum (simultaneously...). As I have a very minor part in this piece, I'll send it to scraps at some point. I have to say I still enjoyed doing it, even if I joined at the last minute and tempo was hard to keep and the conductor was hard to watch from where I was sitting. I love what I do!
Lyrics:
We're coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.
Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.
Silver cities rise,
The morning lights
The streets that meet them,
And sirens call them on
With a song.
It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.
