What distresses me most about this whole phenomenon is how I once interrogated someone more hip than myself about it and they were actually able to provide a somewhat reasonable explanation of what it means and were somewhat baffled that I had not been able to figure it out myself--I felt as a child must feel when a complex map of trigonometric functions are laid out in front of him by a veteran professor.
