Only starting in the 60's by Anton LaVey is the leviathan cross a symbol of satan. Before that, and even today in most books it is the symbol in alchemy for sulfur/brimstone. Even then, the Church of Satan sees it not as a symbol of evil darkness and satanic power, but of balance, harmony and purity between man and woman. Remember; carnality of flesh is purity of spirit, but not in outward mannerism but by inward action on oneself and surroundings. Our Liberator has shown this to be true.
