Some of those chains look as though if an attempt to swing a kama were made, it would result in a foot being yanked off the ground.

well, usually people who use these type of weapon know not to leave their foot planted in the ground, instead they use body motions and kicks to navigate the chain around them, better control~

Technically, the entire purpose of the kusari gama is to have a free swinging chain tha you can hook your opponent's weapon with, or use to hit them while you have their weapon controlled with the kama.

yes yes, that doesnt mean they cant use their body for the direction and motion of the weapon. I saw it on a video~ Its a friggin hard weapon to use, any miss turn of the chain and you can easily have one of those things come back at you, and not ina good way~
