funny thing, i can play either riicii mahjong and poker, but i dont know why i always get into furiten

Hand planning. One of the key things to recognize is how your own discards -should- play out extremely early in the hand, and focus on ensuring your tiles to wait on are in a range that you won't deal them. Draws will come and go, as always, but maintaining a focus on a specific hand or hand-type early on usually nets a great chance at winning.

On the other hand, you can set yourself up in Furiten if you intend on aiming for a Tsumo; but it's far better to have a hand ready to take advantage of discards X3

Adaptation and flexibility are key skills, but foresight works wonders. Being -too- flexible often leads to Furiten X3

And when in doubt, Chi-Toi XD
