The end..?
I'm leaving it open for now, as I have no idea what shape The Mad might end up in. As it is, I wanted to end it with the certainty that the positions were utterly reversed and Gill was in charge.
I had fun doing this and learned a lot. I hope I did justice to one of my favorite artists.

I've decided, for now, to let the masses decide and depict the aftermath.

The nanites reacted with her DNA in a way that caused them to become versions of her own cells. The difference is that the nanites are computers that receive input from an external source. Since they are now part of her, they can receive mental commands from her and can "infect" another creature and transform it at her will.
Orrrrrr...
She has always been a magical creature and the doctor's process simply awakened her magical self. The chamber actually didn't work properly but was a catalyst for her transformation. She did figure out the doctor's mistake and rectify it so that it will now work perfectly; her magical powers not fully manifest (and she appreciates ironic humor)
