Have you read the Gregory book? It's certainly out of date, but the basics are solid and gorgoeusly fascinating. I just recently picked up a copy in a used bookstore. What is really amusing is there is a preface which says, "I advise no Fundamentalist or Anti-Evolutionist to read it, for if he have no sense of humor, he will not understand it, and if he have, his belief will be like Dunsany's King who 'was as though he had never been'," This being 1929, and we've made precious little progress in the following almost-80 years.

No, mostly outdated in that there have been a lot of significant fossil discoveries since that time, especially when we get to archaic humans. There's a bit of racism when the author tries to predict the future of human evolution, but for 1929 that's par for the course. It's so short sighted it'smore amusing than horrifying. "The negro population is liable to certain diseases" and has a high infant mortality rate, he tells us, which of course has everything to do with the amount of melanin in their skin and nothing to do with generally being in abject poverty. He also informs us there is so much animosity towards mixed marriages there won't be much admixture. Considering who'sr unning for president, this is just a laugh and a half.
