NAME: Sanguinar
TITLE: The Aspect of Plots
-Also represents: thieves, assassins, weaponsmiths
SPECIES: minor Demonic Lord
SIGIL: A slashing blade trailing blood
HISTORY: Every land has its seedy underground. And in Stormhold, Sanguinar is its lord and master. The twin brother of Sheogorath and Sarthiran, it took Sanguinar the longest to adjust to life as an Aspect, though he agreed to Saetan's offer just as willingly as his brothers. But once he became used to life in the mortal realm, he embraced the art of deception and betrayal. Those not familiar with his ways would say he is little more than the lord of criminals, but Sanguinar's power is much greater. He thrives in the shadows more than the Aspect of Shadows herself, reveling in the thrill of the hunt. But where the Aspect of the Hunt focuses on animals, Sanguinar's prey is humans. Like Babaaliah, he is charged with keeping the straying souls in line. But his methods are much more direct and final. After all, one cannot stray far from the Devil's hands if they are already dead.
PERSONALITY: For the amount of blood Sanguinar has on his hands, he actually isn't that bad of a guy. True professional assassins can count him as a friend and ally, and one needs only to ask to receive his aid in taking out a difficult target. He shares Sheogorath's love of gold and riches, but he does not flaunt his horde. Most of the time, he actually lets Sheogorath invest his assets for him, and it is he that is behind most of Sheogorath's legally questionable ventures. And he doesn't hunt and kill at random. If he is after you, he has a legitimate reason, even if that reason is nothing more than a considerable payment in exchange for your head. He is not cruel or sadistic. He kills fast and clean, and does not torture his victims.
In the general populace of Stormhold, his sigil is a talisman of thieves, but this is Sheogorath's work. He convinced his brother to start teaching the more talented thieves a few tricks, and offer rewards for particularly impressive heists in return for the sheer entertainment value of watching them work. Once every few years there is an unofficial "thieves' holiday", in which every Telmarine citizen with gold in their pockets locks down everything valuable, constantly looks over their shoulders, and line the pockets of bodyguards to protect their worldly goods from those looking to impress the Aspects. Thieves caught during this holiday are only lightly punished by authorities, because they are acting for the pleasure of the gods.
Among the other Aspects, he has his friends and enemies. Malacath does not regard him highly, considering skulking in the shadows to be a cowardly way to fight. But he is on good terms with his brothers, and will often aid Hyericine and Mephala when they are dealing with someone who has displeased them. Even Merishka will soften her expression for him once in a while. But like Sarthiran, when it comes to debates, Sanguinar rarely does more than take Sheogorath's side no matter what the topic. But if there is something that is really piquing his interest, he will make an effort to speak on it.
POWERS: Sanguinar was given only one extra power when he was made Aspect, but one was all he needed. He has the ability to cloak himself in a psychic shield, making him invisible to the eyes of his prey, even if he is standing right in front of them. Everything else is all his own skill.
ARTIST'S COMMENTS: Not much more to say here than I did on Sarthiran's portrait. He's nearly a twin to Sheogorath, so there was little need to make the drawing more unique. I like how the forefront view came out, as long-muzzled front-views are something I need to work on. But I do need more practice in drawing digitgrade from the frontal perspective.
