The Undead player race comes from the Undead city of Necropolis in the Jagged Mountains. Although many independent Undead seek sanctuary in the city from persecution, it's not uncommon for it's citizens to leave after some time, whether for a change of pace, to explore or to get away from the dangerous politics of Necropolis.

Welp, a Lich is a person who's got their...hmm, soul stored away in a vial which makes them almost immortal. Lich enemies one would find out in the world are usually powerful magic users, but that's not always the case. Some Liches are the results of experimentation and research conducted by Necromancers on some poor sod, so a Lich player can be someone who knows next to nothing on the use of magic.
Also, despite their name, Mechanists are a mage class. They use magic to create the items that power their contraptions and equipment.
