Yeah, I know; Yesterday was "Throwback Thursday", and I'd meant to post another classic 'photo-op' from my own collection, but I had so many to choose from, I couldn't make up my mind. So, I'd made my choice on Friday morning, and I'm finally posting it...
When I'd arrived in south Florida in 1994, I didn't anticipate the wide variety of stores at various malls in Broward and Miami-Dade County, until I came across both the Disney Store and the Warner Bros. Studio Store. I came across the latter establishment at three separate malls: The Galleria in Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Mall in Plantation, and the Bayfront Park (an outdoor mall) in Miami. It was an outdoor display in front of the store at the Bayfront Park mall that especially caught my attention...
Above the entrance was a very large work of art, in the form of a statue of classic Wanrer Bros. cartoon characters 'Pepe Le Pew' (a skunk) and 'Penelope' (a black cat, with a white stripe accidentally painted down her back), together (each wearing a bathing suit) on top of a surfboard (as an ocean wave crashes behind them).
I'd managed to take a 35mm photograph of said art from the vantage point of a balcony on the second floor of a 'food court' facing opposite the store. And, due to the angle of the shot I'd taken, you can barely make out the reflection in the window of part of the facade of the Hard Rock Cafe - in the form of a very large piano keyboard -beyond both the store and the 'food court'.
Regrettably, the entire chain of Warner Bros. Studio Stores folded, even though I'd bought a lot of interesting merchandise from them (including lots of 'Pepe' memorabilia: Cloisonne pins, plushies, caps, T-shirts, etc.) during the 1990s. This 'photo-op' will definitely be one of my fondest memories...
Look for more unique animal statue 'photo-ops' I'd taken over the years, later on in 2015.
