Heh, I confess I noticed the similarity and enjoy your comic partly for that reason
That said, I do enjoy breaking the stereotype and having kobolds with surprisingly complex societies. I've a part-finished story about a sizeable kobold city with rich magical and civil traditions and a thousand-year history... a social experiment tried by their dragon-lord.
I guess at least some dragons like having hoards of kobolds so they can play SimCity or Civilisation, with real minions.

It helps to have a good 20 years of Monster Manual illustrations to refer to! I've always liked their long lizardy digits.
