Well, firstly, she hasn't got a very yellow face. She's got a sheen to her mostly grey face which is yellow. Her parents are Lutino and Normal Grey. Male is the Lutino.
Her cheeks are orange not bright red, and the area of yellow on her face is minimal. As I understood, as you stated yourself, the males generally have brighter markings. Some people say the females have white spots under their wings and barring on the tail. Other argue this isn't a good way of sexing the birds. I also understand that this particular colouration is difficult to visually sex too.
You may also think this is stupid, but I just have this feeling she's female. I guess I will never be 100% until she either lays an egg or she is put with a bird that lays eggs and they hatch into little birds :P But my vet is also an avian vet and has a lot of experience with cockatiels particularly, so I am willing to bet he knows what he's talking about :) I am going to beleive she's a female based on his knowledge. He is about to retire so has seen so mny birds come and go and has had a few himself.
Anyhoooow! I find it all rather interesting! Maybe some day I'll get her DNA tested or whatever to determine for sure but as I am not a breeder myself I really don't have any reason to know, you know?
(She's still gorgeous!)

Nah sorry I didn't seem to come across very well ^^ sorry!! *bows*
I like discussing things like this it's cool.
But the lgihting isn't great so I can see why she might look yellow there, it's the indoor lighting, very yellowy. I dunno... if she ends up turning into a male I'll finally appreciate shy the bird likes nestling into my cleavage lol ;)
I would have to call her Rocky D:!
When I said about the "stupid" thing I wasn't implying you were accusing me of being stupid just it kinda sounds odd saying somthing "feels like a female" (ok now that sounded a bit dodgy!)
Ahhhhh well. Time will tell, she is only very young and I have also read that they need to go through their first moult before you can visually guess their gender too :)
I guess you've had tiels yourself? I love mine, this is my first friendly one :P all the rest over the years were outdoor living tiels who aren't very social with me at all. I've reared Budgies mainly and I adore rearing those. I've also reared a ton of wildlife too... I love it :D Birds are really wonderful companions.

Yeah, ok. :D
I'm a bird owner, I've had a total of 7 birds in my lifetime (4 budgies, 3 cockatiels). The current roster is 2 budgies, 2 tiels. all my birds have been male, with the possible exception of my albino budgie (who may be male after all; her cere hasn't become dull like a female's) So I know a bit about birds... I'm no expert, though ;) My tiels were hand raised by my uncle so even though they dont like being handled they will tolerate it. The budgies were pet store birds, so not so much.

She stunningly beautiful Hun, And wow your sister is very good at photos.
And the males have the larger red/orange cheeks for attracting females, some species of birds the females have rather dull colored heads, But not all are like that.
She's gorgeous Hun, You should sktch this and color it, At first I thought this was a drawing/painting.

She looks like a really neat cockatiel. n_n
Weird stuff happened when my family had their first pair of them though, and we ended up in the end with about thirty of them. o_o; We found homes a while back for all but five of them, ...although there were some that left that my family would have liked to have stayed.. Funny, one of them we had named Roxy as well, I think. Only one of the five left seems able to handle being taken out of the room into the rest of the house, but the new cat we rescued nearly killed him. ._.;

Oh my o.o My dog LOVES this bird. She is a funny little dog. She wants to LICK the bird... weirdo! She sits at the top of my stairs and whines like mad if she hears me talknig to Roxy. She won't go away or stop whining. Sometimes I am bad and I give in and the dog (Ciara) comes running up and lies on her belly and whiles and makes funny little noises, she doesnt hurt her or anything she just wants to lick her lol soooooooooooo strange!
My mum has kept tiels outside for a number of years. They were enver good at rearing their babies. We leave them to it really, usually they put in a load of work rearing then either stop and give up or they dont hatch anything and jsut end up sitting for weeks on end... tis strange. This is one of two babies I think that they ever managed to successfully rear! The last one I had to take out and give some food once or twice when the parents were being odd about feeding him.
I love Rox, she's a star. :D

Yeah she is very good, all she does it look around at you and chirrup a bit. My sister took a macro I think and wasn't right up close. Being a photo student she has a 500 camera plus lenses etc so I think it makes it easier to get close up without sticking anything in hte bird's face haha ^_^!
She did spend about 30 minutes snapping lots of images of her. I have a massive folder full of Roxy XD!!

Ooooh! I hope they're living ok out in the wild then... many domestic birds find it hard to live in the wild. We had a big parrot once which my little brother let out by accident (being jsut a kidk!) and he apparently lived while eating fruit in orchards in the area! :) hehe We kept hearing from people who rang up saying they saw him for months and one day people stopped seeing him so I don't know if he got captured or what!
^^ It's jsut my opinion but I wouldn't feel so sorry for a bird in captivity if it were looked after properly and had lots of room and attention. They make wonderful pets and they LOVE companionship, even from humans.
Tiels were birds I never understood properly until now. My Roxy is wonderful and she gives me so much happiness :)
thanks for commenting :D
