Synthetic Lynx, Female, 32, 5'6", formerly male organic lynx
Profession: "Ship Flipper" Voidcraft Restoration Specialist
Pembroke is my latest character, and a close friend of Borden and yet-to-be-debuted Pond. They work in the ship-flipping business, finding old, abandoned ships and wrecks floating around in space or in junkyards, and restoring, rebuilding, and fixing them up and selling them off for profit. Pem's body is geared to assist her in her job, with holo-tools built into her forearms and hands, microthrusters (under the hexagonal "spots"), multi-band visual systems, magnetic soles on her feet, forward lamps, high-powered cutting lasers and powerful comm systems in her horns, and high-end acoustic sensors (though that last one is partially because she REALLY enjoys her music)
Outside of work she's really into music and bowls in a league (Owning an entire rack of personalized bowling balls of her own, and has an entire storage unit dedicated to her trophy collection). In general she's fairly low-intensity unless she's getting competitive, in which case the fire in her eyes can be felt by everyone in the room/bowling alley. She's an adept manager when working with small teams on projects, and is generally considered the "leader" of her little gang of friends
Also, Pembroke is trans. Originally she was a fairly normal, organic boy who didnt feel like she fit in her own skin. Thankfully, being the far-future, and her not minding the differences between synthetic and organic, Pem's transition only took a couple weeks as her brain was converted to synthetic via nanomachines (with a TON of gear hooked to her old meaty form to support both) and transplanted into the synthetic body shes in now. (I'm considering doing a short comic to show what she went through at a later date). The process didn't go entirely without a hitch, though, as she still craves organic foods on top of the normal metal-and-plastic foods a synthetic usually eats. She soon had a small digestive system and a custom bionic tongue installed to let her snack on her old favorites.
So yeah, that's Pembroke as she is now. I owe most of the details of her design to missmab whom, when I mentioned wanting to make another character but not knowing what to do, provided me with an adoptable she'd purchased from chakisuu and wasn't using for anything. So, I kept her colours, converted her into a synthetic, and built from there. I look forward to drawing her more (and of course, getting art from others of her, too)

Her design is based off the design of an adoptable? o: I have to wonder what that looks like right now. Still, Pembroke is badass. (WHY DO YOU DRAW LYNX SO WELL? Not that I've seen you draw many at all but god dammit). Love the details on her character and the artwork as well, if you ever do a series on her and her group definitely going to follow it closely! Also those hips and thighs, damn.
Great work Strype!

Well, here's the original (NSFW!) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u.....61/LynxGal.png . If anyone knows who came up with her, I'd love to know so I can give credit (Amber forgot who it was)
I have a problem/question about this character (please don't feel I'm nitpicking).
She plays in a bowling league with a fully synthetic body? I guess the league is mainly synthetics then, as having targeting and enhanced muscle control would pretty much make bowling boring and too easy for someone like this, as well as unfair to anyone not enhanced?
I mean, I can see her being a semi serious casual player, but a synthetic playing league bowling is like a synthetic doing Olympic weight lifting or running; they'd have too much of an advantage for it to be evenly judged unless all competitors were equally enhanced and all info on said enhancements were documented and known ahead of time.

While synthetics would have their own olympics (which I would imagine would be way more fun to watch) ones like Pembroke meet the neural and physical qualifications to bowl in organic leagues, as she's not outside the typical human strength range (though she is on the high-end) and her coordination is as limited as any other organic in terms of full-body movement, having been born and raised as an organic (the exception comes in coordination in her hands, which is perfected for tool use on her job, which is something she can disable when she desires, and can be monitors externally by league officials) At most she can plot an optimum ball trajectory in her HUD, but that's functionally no different than a bowler visualizing their throw before they make it.
When playing against her synthetic friends, however, there's usually pre-game agreements about which systems they can enable and disable to keep the odds even. Borden, for example, agrees to limit her strength to 5%, and disables her tractor-pressor arrays

Not sure how much of a gamer you are or if you even have time for it, but Star Citizen is going to be an in-depth sci-fi space sim made by Chris Roberts [Freelancer, Wing Commander, even produced some movies like Lucky Number Slevin]
There's a high chance ship restoration and flipping will be something you can actually specialize in in the game.

I have not heard this rumor, but its not true. The entire game optimized will probably push closer to 30 gigs - which is big for a game, but consider the fact that bf4 is around 25gigs and SC is going to be a much bigger, more detailed game. Along with patches and content additions maybe you'll end up downloading 300gigs over all, but it will never take up that much space in your hard drive.
I honestly think it'd be near impossible to make an optimized game that is 300 gigs.

Amazing work on this and the backstory. I wish I could do stuff this awesome. Ill get there one day. I vow to be as good as this.
And if she isint careful, I could see her getting ahold of a ship that should just be left adrift in space. Cuz it's probobly overrun with some sort of space zombies or parasites that infested the whole ship. Or is haunted. Some bad shit can go down in space

Though still have doubts about 'augmentation,' Pembroke here is an exception. As we all know, some people emotional suffer just because they wish to be in the opposite sex.
Perhaps full-body augmentation is very better than sex-change surgery.
Forgive me for making this conversation sour, I think Synthetics would be discriminated just as equally as 'LGBT' sexual preference if they exist in our world in our timeline. But try not to feel too bad, we're bunch of xenophobic primitives after all.
At least in your fictional future is much more tolerable.

Perhaps for the first little while. I honestly believe such discrimination is merely a cultural byproduct, and we seem to be moving as a whole species towards open-mindedness. I could imagine several cultures would look at synthetics with disdain, but such things don't tend to last long, particularly if there's constant exposure to the "other" people and their inherent value becomes evident to the discriminators. Hatred is brought on by fear of the unknown. Understanding breeds love.
I would imagine they'd be disposed of in the same ways as we dispose of bodies nowadays, except the "departed" is there. In Pembroke's case, she had her organic remains cremated and spread them in a park she loved playing in as a child. In a way, it was a way of psychologically letting go of her previous life, saying goodbye to what chance gave her, and moving on to a life she chose to pursue.
Perception is a property of the senses. I would imagine those who engineer synthetic bodies would adjust the inputs on the mouth's chemical detectors to provide positive stimulus for materials that the synthetic body needs, and negative stimulus for things that could harm it, just as organic life evolved its sense of taste in the same way. And seeing how a synthetic body would likely need plastic and metal for it's normal maintenance and self-repair, to a synth, such things should taste pretty damned good. As for the lingering joys of organic foods, one would imagine that's a custom sensor job to detect those flavors with higher accuracy, and simulate the sensations in how those signals are sent to her brain.
Synthetic bodies can repair themselves? That's too advanced for conventional robotics. The closest I can imagine is nanotechnology, nanobots or machines at a microscopic level to mimic that of organic cells. But of course, like organic cells, nanobots need energy and resources to grow or repair the body as well themselves.
So synth food converts to raw materials (plastic and metal) to energize, grow, and repair synthetic body. Now that make sense.
I'm also a cook, not professionally but I take it seriously.
I may be a picky-eater but I'm sure anyone would agree to eat fresh food that doesn't taste like plastic or metal. That's why I hardly buy any junk food, except Twinkies.
