Here is Lexx who just recently lost his rack. He was resting in the shed, and decided to give him some pets on his head. Their racks grow pretty fast, and the older they get, the more detailed they are, until they start growing an old buck rack.

If I understand correctly the Rut cycle is tied a lot to the sun cycle. The further south the deer are the later the Rut starts and consequently the longer they keep their antlers until they shed. The Rut in Texas usually doesn't peak until December sometimes! That is my understanding and it might not be accurate.
