The saying goes that you should never trust a beautiful woman. This is doubly true in medieval Japan, as you never know when a consort of the court might actually be a kunioichi in disguise. Coon here has disguised herself as a distinguished Lady of the Court to get close to her target. Having thoroughly assessed the stronghold's defenses from the inside while disguised, she sheds her borrowed dress at nightfall, slipping into something more suited to the work of a deadly ninja.
Saw some gentlemen offering cool art sketches at FWA this year and wanted to get some stuff with Coon since the theme was indo-oriental (Sangri-La). The two artists were working in tandem, with one sketching roughs and the other finishing the linewok and details. I've never seen an artist alley set up like that before, and it was pretty cool.

Glad you guys enjoyed working on it! I really adore how it turned out. Might have to see if you guys might want to do more of my characters in the future!
As for the background, don't worry too much about it. One of the themes that persists throughout "ninja Coon"'s tale is being foreign. Raccoons are native only to North America, so the story holds that she was picked up as an infant with her parents with the intention to be made slaves, only to have their ship blown off course and razed by oriental pirates. She was found on the beach by the head of a secluded ninja sect and raised as his daughter. The sect was eradicated by local diamoh warlords who were trying to eliminate wildcards that might get in the way of political unity under the emperor, sending her on a quest for revenge that would dominate her adult life.
Maybe her travels would even take her to parts of Europe as she became involved in some of the secrets the warlords were hiding?
