From Kovacs With Love...
The TTAG Facebook page had a thread about guns and cigars; my contribution shows a couple of classics from the 50s, still going strong today...

Haydn's String Quartet, Op. 3 No. 5 -- the 2nd, or "Andante Cantabile", movement from this quartet known as the "Serenade" (and which was actually written by a Benedictine monk named Hoffstetter and attributed to Hadyn for many years) was used in Ernie's Dutch Masters commercials. Which recording did Ernie use, O great Matzah? This was unknown at the time of the CD's release. Chusid has since found out that it was an LP by the American String Quartet. Find a copy on eBay, if you can. In the meantime, you can listen to a recording by an unidentified string quartet here.

I wasn't born when Kovacs are alive and producing and starring in his tv specials. I caught his skits during a PBS special with Jack Lemmon as the narrator sometime in the 1980s. There was also a low budget compilation film titled "Kovacs!" that was shown on and off on cable tv that had his best comedy skits that I saw on tv. Have several dvds of Kovacs' tv work. Great visual effects for its day!
Brilliant man who died too young.
