Actually Jedi can use red sabers - the color is dependent on the crystal inside of the saber. Though for movie purposes in the movies, most of the Jedi used green or blue sabers, while sith used red. Sith do typically use red but Jedi can use red as well, you just typically don't see this in the movies.
