Been working on this piece off and on for about two weeks or so. Maybe more.
Originally this was a relaxing piece, just something to do in my spare time, then I got a bit more serious with it as time went on. I decided to slow down with it and try focusing on more details. Then eventually I said, “fuck it, i’m going to try painting a background.”
Which I know, there’s so many mistakes with this background, but I made the goal not to make a realistic looking background, just one that I enjoyed looking at and making.
I sorta realized that backgrounds annoy me because they’re inorganic, they usually feel devoid of life to me when I try creating them. I enjoy working with fleshy living things, so that makes backgrounds pretty boring for me. So with this, I jut decided to try using forms I normally like to paint with, and use them in the background while not getting caught up too much in making it look realistic.
I couldn’t get the background to perfectly mesh with the character, but overall, i’m pleased with how this looks.

Definitely had to dive in for a closer look,
Totally dig that bio-luminescence, and that I eat predators for breakfast vibe.
For a "Fuck it" background, it really builds up the suspense when looking at the Naga, and man... I would hang that thing on a wall personally.

Ooh thank you! I really like that description 'eat predators for breakfast,' I'm glad that came across!
I wouldn't necessarily say it was a 'fuck it' background. I did put quite a bit of effort into it, I just didn't allow myself to get hung up on details or realism.

oh man, where do i even start.
aight top to bottom.
Gotta say, the way his head almost seems to have like a boneplate or something over the face is pretty unique, not something i've seen in conjunction with nagas before.
I love his jaws, those are perfect.
For the shoulders I am unsure if those are moveable tentacles or just a boney structure similar to ram horns but wow the way the frame around him is very eye catching, adding to his over all look of "I am a powerful creature and everything else is prey"
I feel like his waist shouldn't get quite so slender so quickly since it adds a teeny bit of an anorexic feel to him, though perhaps he simply woke up after some kind of hibernation. Otherwise I feel like it should be just a little thicker.
The arms look a little disproportionate compared to his waist and chest, but I really dig how their drawn. And perhaps you aimed for that look, I donno but It feels like it suits him. So it's not a bad thing :P those talon like fingers make me shiver x3
Now for that snakey underbody. I love it, the way you showed it bunched up, curving and pressed against that background pillar is nothing less than phenomenal and astounding. The luminescence is a very good touch, it goes with his over look very well.
The back ground makes me think of some kind of lost temple/ castle that he was or is guarding and I feel like that's a good place you'd find a critter like him so all in all. wonderful piece.

But interesting, didn't think about the waist. I tend to give exaggerated waists with bulky characters since it tends to make the sillouete nicer to look at. But I will note that that for later, didn't intend to make him look starved.

I love your artwork so I didn't want to just toss out a simple "Oh that looks nice" Comment, so I did my best to analyze the piece.
and even through the proportions are off I think it ties in nicely with the overall look pretty well.
