Commission for
ironaxe, of a traveling yinglet who is experiencing a bit of a navigational complication at the moment.
A lone yinglet makes for easy prey, so they almost always travel in groups for safety and socialization. A yinglet out on its own will need to make careful preparations beforehand, and be extra cautious along the way.
When you're 3.5 feet tall, it is not cowardly to hide.

Now you have me thinking of a Yinglet moveset.
Cower
Call a half dozen other yinglets from offscreen to swarm the opponent and steal his wallet
Run in circles screaming in terror and panic
Throw dirt
Sell opponent his wallet back
Can't really think of any other appropriate ones...

won't work if I've no clue where said land marks are in the open world XD. I swear if I didn't have that compass and auto pin to show where I was going I'd be lost in all of the rpgs I play X'D I have the worst sense of direction uwu my "shortcuts" involve climbing over mountains in Skyrim, one can figure how stupid that is when you accidentally sprint over the top and plummet to the ground uwu;;

Ha! You got me thinking the same thing. They're pretty much useless on their own (thus their tendency to move about in groups), and their main (and pretty much only) defense is to let out a distress call, which puts nearby yinglets into attack mode and they swarm the attacker with little consideration for their own safety.
So in SSB, a yinglet would pretty much scurry around in panic, taunting the others while scoring hits (all of which do 0.1% damage) until it builds up a 'distress call' meter. And then the screen is full of yinglets, and by the time you've knocked them all off the stage, the original one has long since fled.

Man, I'm still glad every time I hear it! As the one who sketched up these little things for use in a story, I see them in a completely different way, so it can be hard for me to know how others perceive them without feedback.
And I'd love to see one drawn in your style! You do a lot of great stuff with lighting and realistic shading, so I'm curious to see how that would turn out.

The thing that really sets them apart design-wise (for me) is that even without context, I can look at a Yinglet and derive more than a few things from it. There's their expression and stance that says something, and their apparel and gear which very clearly isn't just thrown on for looks. You do a wonderful job of telling a story with each of them and it's refreshing and fun. :)
Okay, that explanation makes sense! Since I'm more inclined to focus on expression/storytelling than art quality/detail (which is probably because I entered the art world as a comicmaker), I wanted to make this species super-expressive for the role they'd end up playing. I think the biggest factor for them is their birdlike anatomy and stilt-legs, which means that just about any movement must be accompanied by a change in posture to balance it out. And yeah; most of them don't own anything (and they can't carry much), so if they're wearing/carrying anything around, it's probably really important to them.
In any case, I really do try to inject lots of personality into these little guys, so I'm always really excited to hear someone appreciates that!

According to Pen & Paper RPG rules, there's already some old fortress or ruins that the local yinglets have overrun and turned into a deathtrap.
If you reach the bottom, you'll find their massive hoard of shellfish and neat-looking rocks. And the shellfish have all gone bad.
