Continuing the "no time to draw" archive dive...
So again about five or six years before the dawn of furry....April '78.
Pony girl and lizard girl and mysterious rider (in weird greco-roman 30's style space-helmet sort of thing)....Idea sort of mixed Bode and Dean, inking style a very loose variation on Moebius. Trying to use some of all their techniques (and Frazetta's and Shelton's etc) to create a sense of 3D depth. i had found, back then, that one could trick the mind-thing into actually seeing a painting or drawing as though it was 3D...pot sometimes did that, holding a lens over one eye could also trick the brain as to visual clues...the main point to give a lot of clues as to depth and form...all the artists mentioned above knew this stuff, especially Moebius. These days i can just see 2D stuff in 3D if i get my brain/eyes working that way...
Anyhoo, this is a peice near and dear to me, but the inking was left about 40% unfinished...so during the last three years i started finishing it up digitally...put the last few touches on it tonight, and here it is after so long....
And there is a colour version in the works....
Close-up crop in a few minutes....
crow quill pens and india ink on paper 11 x 17 in
PainterX
Krita
Finally got a few days off to get back to art...and sprained my ankle an hour before i was off work....life.... O_o

Wood and metal engravings used the same sort of line tech for cross-hatching half-tones. When i wuz a kid me mum had a lot of big art books from mid to late 1800s that were full of engraved plates - some original illustrations, some reproducing paintings...the ink got into my blood. In teens comicbook artist Barry Smith eventually started using a similarly inspired style as did Moebius (in a different way) - so this is inspired from those three sources.
Man the late 70's and mid to late 80's had such fantastical art, so much inspiration seemed to be around for fantasy and im sad i missed it.
(not one of those: born in the wrong generation, i strongly believe God chose this time for a reason) but i do feel a bit sad i missed out XD
