It started as just using a text file to emulate a board, and just keeping mental track, and using D20's instead of cards, but with roll20, you can make a board and custom cards and have all sorts of fun with that. Otherwise, just keep marked spaces in such a way that like rolls will unlikely land you on the same spot twice, maybe an exception or two.
