Something I haven't posted in while, aviation concept art. Last weekend I official got onboard with mh47e link to do artwork for an upcoming game he is developing called Roan link Since part of the work I will be doing will involve aircraft I decided to scratch out some designs yesterday while taking a break from other clients work and folding the laundry. This what I came up during that time.
After some conversations with the client online I got a better feel for what type of tech I'm dealing with, so I may refine a couple of the designs or just come up with some new ones. The tech in the world definitely has that Diesel-Punk or Sky Crawlers link feel to it.

I have always had this silly idea for a jet seaplane. main float/pontoon from the os-2 kingfisher with the German volksfighter on top of it. I don't know if it would work or not, but I think it would have better survivability than the ski type landing gear the American attempt at the idea would be.
Well there was the Martin SeaMaster http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_P6M_SeaMaster but it was never considered successful.
There was also the "Sea Dart" a supersonic sea plane concept.

Let's hear it for the pusher-design love!
I've always liked the retro-futurist aircraft like the late-war designs, post-war prop-driven racers and the stuff from "Wings of Honneamise" and the like, where it's obvious that they're doing everything they can to push the envelope for prop-driven aircraft.

Just hope that all the ejection, explosive bolts, spring-loaded thingies actually work. Since after all if you are having to bail from your plane then things are probably already broken to begin with! Kind of like the same problem with ejecting the warp-core from your starship. At least there some percentage of a chance it will work.
It looks quite a bit like the Shinden, but with more wind tunnel work giving a more organic design. The top left looks a lot like the Bell YFM-1 Airacuda, and the bottom right looks like it might have a bit of the Henschel Hs P.75 in its ancestry. The one on the bottom left is the odd one out; it looks a little like Blohm und Voss redesigned the Saab 21 as a reconnaissance aircraft.
I really liked that upper-right plane. So I decided to whip together a Kerbal version. It's not visually accurate, but it's turned out to be a fun little jet.

Gah. Version 1.0.
The new aero update from 0.9 actually made me ragequit. I had an absolutely dynamite SSTO worked out, clean as a razor, stable as brick on bedrock. I was building a tug out of orange tanks to dock a pair of them, ferry them over to Eve to try interplanetary flight.
Now it can't get past 16k, barely slugs past 200m/s, and the horrible new 'We made your wings weak so you get more stuff explosions!' bug/feature means every time it maneuvers, the wings... Partially disassemble. All the panels float like four feet apart, then snap back together like a slinkie. And apparently Jeb's forgotten how to fly in a straight line.

I like the upper right and lower left.
Upper right resembles a Burt Rutan design I always loved the aesthetics of.
Lower left feels like something similar existed somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it, thought, they way you mix elements of historical aircraft, that "I can't quite remember this one" feeling is probably to be expected.
As always, you do good work, designing technology.
