Like it sez, page two. My supervisor at work came up to me today and told me that there had again been complaints from co-workers who claimed to have caught me reading. Holy shit - just how petty do you have to BE to file a complaint like that?? I can't even imagine. Maybe if I blindfold myself as I sort the books, that would make them happy? Gave me a pain behind my right eye that's still there.

All this is apart from the assertion that Karno has the spare time to crack open a book. Either he has a spare moment, in which case the reading is not taking away from work he is supposed to be doing, or he doesn't, in which case it would be obvious that he is not keeping up with his work. But I've worked in places so small-minded that they would honestly rather you just sat with your thumb up your ass staring off into space than actually fill your idle time with ANY constructive activity.
Personally, I think his fellow employees are just jealous that he is able to do something that they don't know how to.

"Caught Reading?" Is reading on the job a bad thing? Seriously I can't go to work and not read. I mean I have to deal with computer problems daily so what do I do, pull out the manual for the software and read... smart-a-phobes, they're just afraid that your smarted than them because you can read and write above a 5th grade level.
Geez, caught reading on the job? What assholes! I mean, you could just be sorting the books, see something that looks interesting and taking a quick look at it to see if you might want to get it on payday! Heaven forbid you are someone who actually likes to own and read the books you help sell instead of using them as fancy display pieces!
Precisely.
"I had a regular customer ask me last month about <Insert book name here>, s/he is a regular customer, especially in <insert genre here>, and generallyis pretty knowledgeable about good books from the purchases I've seen s/he make. So yes, I did read the back cover and the prologue when that book came in to see if it was something that I might recommend to other customers who like <insert genre here>, because it's a series/author that I'm not familiar with. I want to be helpful to our customers while increasing book sales for the store. And yes,I realize it would be wrong to just read constantly on the job when there was work to be done, but this was during a lull when most of the other employees were just standing around talking anyway."

I recently got a complaint against me that I insulted someone at work and that I was impolite. But I haven't the faintest clue as to who, where and how. You got always some people that go behind your back. If I have a problem with someone I address that person about that problem and I don't go behind his back about it. I don't like office politics give me straight forward bigmouth workers any day.
Got a transfer and now I'm doing the administration for the workforce team leaders and if they have a problem you hear it from half way across the work floor no matter how much noise the machines are making. See a problem solve a problem, no cloak and dagger office politics bullshit that only aggravates the problems.
