Beto was so excited for the marathon that he was flapping his hands about and not realizing it ^_^; mama moo got hold of betowolfs arms reminding him not to do that. ^^
I just had to get something before April ends and it's the month of Autism awareness. :3

Yes, its a trait those of us with ASDs called "stemming". Flapping is quite common one, but so is flicking fingers. For me, I usually will pick something up and mess with it or something flick my fingers. It can happen when were excited or commonly, when were stressed out.
I guess I am probably one of the few Autistic that does not support Autism Awareness month (To me, it is Society trying to justify the countless years of Discrimination against our kind)
I never flapped my arms, and I was an ROTC Cadet. and I was turned away from the US Marine Corps. solely because I was Autistic. which is discrimination.
I'll support it when organizations like Autism Speaks actually listens instead of promoting their own Agenda

Yea, they annoy the hell out of me as well. They are solely into the "awareness" game for monetary gain and have quite commonly treated those with ASDs like their horrible people >_>. Like they produced a video of a mother literally talking about how caring for her autistic daughter made her want to drive off a bridge but it was thoughts of other her "normal" daughter that stopped her.... and she said that RIGHT IN FRONT of her autistic kid...
So yea, that group is the exact opposite of what everyone thinks they are. If you want ACTUAL awareness of ASDs, inform people of our traits (like this drawing is doing with stemming) so non-ASD people (aka "Neurotypicals") can better understand us and associate with us. Also, it would be important for workplaces to understand these traits to help their workers with ASDs. All of these I noticed are quite lacking sadly.

That is no excuse what-so-ever. Not to mention, its an admission to a potential murder-suicide since she said she had her autistic daughter in the car with her and wanted to drive off a bridge... Yea...
Not to mention, some of their ads make ASDs sound like their as bad as cancer and proves they don't even know much about the issue their supposedly "advocating" for. This leads to demonizing people with ASDs and does far more damage for the ASD community than help. Thus why most in the ASD community have a strong hatred for Autism Speaks. Here's an excellent video dissecting one of their propaganda-like ads I've seen and it gives an ASDs perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMPNvcJtIR8

you know what i see when i see someone with autism...I see a person. someone who is what they choose to be. everyone is different and everyone is special. that's what makes this world interesting. I just wish there were more people in the world who understood this. I don't have autism myself but i do have severe mental disabilities and it saddens me when ANYONE is held back by society or discriminated against because they are a little more different than others. this is a very nice pic and i live the little blurb that went with it.
As one with Asperger’s Syndrome; I understand the need not to disturb people in public. Conversely, in my own private space, I do not feel embarrassed to do things like leap and jump. (Some people might say that Pinkie Pie has autistic symptoms for how silly and hyperactive she acts. But maybe many of us really are just different, with different talents.)
Either way Tato, I approve of the theme, having Asperger's it's been hard with people assuming you can only do some things. Currently I'm a field repair tech for a large computer company, and I also am trained in two styles of fencing. If anyone reading this, has any level of the Autism Spectrum, and they tell you, you can't do something, just go prove them wrong.
lucky bastard :P
when I did this at 5, my caregiver threw me ground so hard my face bounced, then they shoved my face into a pillow to suffocate me, and held my hands so tight they almost tore my rotator cuffs.
then they put a needle into my butt and I slept for 3 days straight.

Yeah. *sighs* Progress is great isnt it?
For me growing up this kinda stuff (picture) wouldn't be tolerated and the reaction would be ALOT more severe then just a mere "stern warning". A day and a half of being "stuck in my room" with no privileges whatsoever would likely follow the "intervention".
Even still, locally ASD marches are frowned upon by local government because of "risk to civil order" and speaking about it outside of "controlled venues or groups" in Ontario runs the risk of you getting sued for third party liability.
BTW I was diagnosed at 16 then "fully re-affirmed" last year -- after I ran into some "justice issues"

A few of my friends have told me they think I have Aspergers but my Dr said no because i seem to talk to people fine. But she was just a Nurse in trainin so who knows? Lol doesnt really make a difference one way or anuther. In fact I remember in school mom was given this weird brush to brush my skin, was told it would help with me fidgiting or something. I still have that brush too! Tho I no longer need to use it lol Sometimes i shake my right hand so my fingers hit each other when im trying to think bit i can make it stop if i focus.
Many people with AS (such as myself) don't have trouble having a conversation with people. Though for me, it did take allot of time and practice (which my previous job really helped with). Though its sadly common for me to draw a complete blank of what to say at times, even to common questions and speech. I also sometimes take some jokes and witty comments seriously as I have trouble telling when they are joking or not >_>.
And that behavior with shaking your hand sounds like a behavior those of us with ASDs have called "stemming". Its basically a different version of what Beto is doing in this drawing with flapping his arms. I'll sometimes flick my fingers or if there's something small nearby I can pick up, I pick it up and mess with it. It can help relieve stress for me ^^;.

ya im always playing with something in my hands..like a pen or a box cutter i'll twirl it about in my fingers..and i unno why but i really like the feeling of my fingers hitting each other when i shake it. I remember I used to be sooo shy to talk to strangers. I've gotten better at it now..but true I cant really tell if someone's being sarcastic or telling a joke sometimes either..
Im the same way with visual learning..if i see someone do it first its alot easier than being told to do something and alot of materials do bother me, like windbraker material, nylon, the fabric tents are made of too, and styrofoam too. *shivers* just makes me cringe thinking about it lol
But it would be nice to know for sure. But since my doc obviously doesnt know much about this stuff, i unno how to go about it. I usually have my bf help me when im confused about stuff like this but i dont think he knows either. Lol unless i just use
Those online quizzes but i dont think those are legit XD

Ya, a lil while ago I went to a therapist appointment. I tried to tell my therapist all this, all the things I do..about possibly having a higher functioning form of autism. He basically said that "Well there isn't really a definitive test..but as long as it doesn't interfere with your life, I wouldn't worry about it. We all are different, etc.." So I guess I'll never really know if I have it or not. *shrugs* But whether I do or not officially. Pribably cant afford a specialist either to see. Ill try the quiz when i got time.
My GF, who is autistic, informs me that the majority of people stim, it just happens to be more noticable and unfortunately looked down upon in autistic people. I agree with the idea that stimming in public is perfectly fine as long as it's not disrupting or causing harm to others.
So Beto, you flap your little arms to your hearts content~
Also love to all the people who also hate Autism speaks~
All in all, adorable picture Beto~

Yea, and this stigma is one reason I've tried to control some of this. But yea, it doesn't hurt anyone and it helps us feel better, especially when stressed or going though a form of sensory overload (thankfully is rare for me to happen but I've had "shutdowns" happen before, latest being when my friend invited me to bar when it was very crowded and the music was extremely loud >__<).
I hope your girlfriend is doing well Liljudue :3

theresa reason im not titillating.
not really trying to be rude, just that the cure is atp, and your not going to understand it when your neurons are firing backwards due to a variant of prions.
swanson.com the price went up 4x since last month. its going to skyrocket so hard it will leave you crying, so buy it now.

I have a brother diagnosed with PDD-NOS and I was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome when I was a child, ADHD as well.
I did hand-flapping and I rocked back and forth on my feet a lot, or in my chair whenever I was sitting too long.
I really only ever had one issue with it, an ignorant teacher tried to accuse me of doing something nasty when I was rocking back and forth at my desk once....if I were ever to see her again I'd walk right up to her and cuss her out.
I'm more controlled now than I was then, I still rock back and forth when standing, or do another nervous tic where I touch my hair repeatedly, but if I notice myself doing it I stop immediately.

I agree. Being on the spectrum (I have Aspergers) it really makes people sometimes question if you have an illness. If you`re a young kid trying to fit in to a public school.....it`ll be a nightmare. But I do think that it shouldn`t be a "mental disorder". There are ups and downs to it. Everyone has hose, regardless of whether or not they are on the spectrum.

i have autism and ADHD and i usually flap my arms around when i get either excited of i panic it's funny because one time i was panicking and my friend tried to calm me down and i was flapping my arms i accidentally hit him in the face i started laughing so i guess in a way he did calm me down
Man, autism sucks. I used to display a lot of traits when I was younger but have gradually learned to control myself. It's always humiliating to suddenly be the center of attention for something you didn't even realize you were doing on impulse that isn't quite normal - like arm flapping for example.
Anyway, this art is adorable. I wanna hug them both.
