...yea...
The original Disk Utility report of my disk's failure...
and my reaction...
Still hoping it can be recovered. Has been under analysis for 24-hours now...
*sigh*
...pic might be scrapped later...

I have that same hdd i think, should i be worried?
They continuously check the disk's diagnostic system for errors and 'might' be able to predict any major failures.
Since I assume you won't be carrying 1TB of data around very often, maybe that can be a good solution... many of those monitor applications are freeware and widely available online.
^^
Are you sure they're not going to find anything under their "analysis" you wouldn't otherwise want them to find? lol
Oh and btw don't buy Siemen's products, they're not exactly the best quality.
...me? Pay hundreds of dollars to have some snot-nosed brat fresh from college scavenge through 'MY' personal data?
...HELL NO!
I'm havin' compy problems right now, too.
Cute pictures, btw. :)
as for computer problems, you need to deal with them as racionally and quickly as possible, or they'll suck the life out of you...
...trust me on that... =_=
its the Mac that's actually allowing me to recover that disk... a WINDOWS SYSTEM DISK... because Windows locks up every time I plug the disk in, and won't let me do anything...
...how about THEM Apples? >:3
I'm sorry, sir. But that kind of Mac bashing comments should be checked in at the door.
Thank you, Have a nice day.
...who says anthro artists don't draw inspiration from classical art? :3

OS X provides a wonderful Disk Utility built-in feature: RAID 1. I purchased three brand new factory sealed Hitachi 500 GB Ultrastar enterprise grade HDs on eBay for $51 to $65 each. Mean Time Between Failures is 1,200,000 hours. I purchased a firewire box to put them in. The third HD is a spare. Both my computer and I now feel invincible - sweet!!!
Three 500GB enterprise disks!? ...dude, I think I might idolize you from now on :3
Avoid 10,000 RPM HDs unless you are doing commercial video editing. Heat dissipation increases with the cube of the RPM.
Get a box with one or more fans of 80x80 mm size or larger. Heat is your HDs' enemy. Larger slower RPM fans make much less noise for a given airflow, and bearing wear goes with the cube of the RPM, all else being equal.
eSATA, Firewire, or USB2? eSATA hyperspeed is fine for Yahoo, but is a needlessly expensive overkill for home use. Although USB2 looks faster than Firewire, those delicious figures are peak data transfer rates, not sustained. Firewire 400 will beat USB2 for practical sustained massive data transfer, and Firewire 800 beats 400. Moreover, if you are like me, you have lots of stuff already plugged into your USB ports. You don't want your RAID array to have to wait every time you make a stroke with your stylus or a click on your keyboard. Firewire rules for RAID.
HD brand: Hitachi Ultrastars have a 1,200,000 MTBF. Western Digital Caviars have a 600,000 hour MTBF and are not any cheaper, at least not for new factory sealed ones on eBay. The WD MyBook does NOT have a Caviar drive and is nowhere near as reliable.
HD size: Never buy the biggest of any model line; they may be pushing heat dissipation, bearing load, and bit density limits. Get something no more than half the capacity of the largest member of the line. I got nice ultra conservative Hitichi 500 GB Ultrastars. I think that the FA raid arrays are now using Ultrastars, too.
My three new factory sealed 500 GB Ultrastars cost me about $180 including shipping. That is a small price to no longer fear entropy eating my digital life! Hurrah for immortality and invulnerability!! (A DVD burner for making weekly incremental off site backups is nice insurance against your house being carried away by a tornado, too.)
Nothing quite so 'large', since since I'm no 'business' user. But that might be an option worth considering.
Tho I might replace the FireWire external box for an 'internal' SATA array. I'd say I'm pretty much done with external disks and, with an 8GB memory card to transfer stuff from/to work, I'd say I really don't need an 'external' disk.
Now, all I need is to get a decent system to 're-arrange' as my new NAS unit... :P
...Oh... and as for Tornados, I think I'm pretty safe from those :P
