Granted, one could nit-pick at the way the Master of Elfhame managed the whole operation -- for example, why didn't he simply fly back to Faerie and get help? -- but on the other paw, he's got Mothra beaten when it comes to rescuing furs. Who needs Team Tracy?

True, you could nit pick... but in the heat of the moment you do what you can, with what you have, as you can think of it... if he had flown away then it is likely he would not have returned in time and all would be lost... and he did realise his biggest mistake was not using his wyvern form earlier... at least he can honestly tell the Wolf Queen that he knew she would prefer to have had a hand in Ooo-er's rescue.
