TOMATO JUICE DOES NOT GET RID OF SKUNK SMELL. IT’S A MYTH. Tomatoes do literally nothing at all, but the reason people think it works is because of something called olfactory fatigue, where the nose basically shuts down, which also happens after you get sprayed by a skunk. You don’t smell anything skunky, but if tomatoes happen to be present, you will smell that instead of skunk spray. However, after the olfactory fatigue wears off, you’ll realize that it DOES NOT WORK. What actually works is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid detergent, which alters the chemical composition of the skunk spray to be odorless. However, you do NOT want to store this all in one place, because the mixture will burst if kept in a closed bottle.
