If you live in California please vote no on proposition 8. It would write discrimination into our constitution and take away the newly won rights of a minority. Over 11,000 same-sex couples have married already in California and nothing horrible has happened to anyone else's marriage.

This was the colored sculpey cake topper I was trying to make the night before
dinrael and I had our wedding reception. I stayed up until four in the morning and when I baked it, it fell apart. Thankfully one of my friends brought a groom and groom topper so that aspect wasn't lost at the celebration.
I decided I'd turn a failure in sculpting into a political statement with a little help from the California voters guide.

The graphics I've seen asking us to make this imbecelic amendment die the death it deserves superimpose the number 8 on the letter H. That's about the best way to see it... H8, pronounced 'hate'.
I've known you and dinrael even before you were a couple - and you've stayed together longer than the average one-from-column-A-one-from-column-B marriage lasts... without the blessings of legality. To have some pseudo-moralistic throwbacks decide that civil rights once again should only go to thems they likes and not to thems they doesn't, is so pathetically stupid it boggles the (functional) mind. Far less than fifty per cent of the marriages these types want "protecting" last the traditional amount of time, so the apparently obvious fix is to prevent couples that don't meet traditional standards from getting married. Real smart. >_<
Needless to say, I've already contributed, and I'll be voting. Stupidity dies hard - very hard - but it is dying. It will need a few more thumping cracks to the skull, but the overall trend of society is towards more civil rights, not less. Just gotta make it happen. :)

If the proponents of Prop 8 had started with an anti-divorce law or mandatory premarital counseling, it would be much easier to believe their line about wanting to "protect" marriage and that they really aren't out to discriminate. As it stands it's just a mean spirited attack that they're making now because they know in a few more years they won't have anywhere near the support it needs to pass.
As long as we all keep doing our best to stop the hatred and the fear.
