It's been a while since I last posted anything that I've been doing for classes this past semester. So, I'm going to fix that. This pic is of one of my sculpture pieces I made for my Intermediate Sculpture class. I was excited because she said we could make make anything we wanted with the bronze as long as we used at least a cup's worth of wax in order to carve a figure out of. So, I chose to melt it down into a sheet and carved my horse warrior Cervantes. I used some tools in order to carve out the details. In the end, he was supposed to have had two arms, a sword and another leg. Though when the mold was made and the bronze finally poured, the teacher admitted that she jumped the gun and didn't let the bronze get to the right melting point. So, the bronze got in...but didn't properly pour down and into the arms, sword and one of the legs. Was extremely disappointed....like opening up the worst Christmas present. But after a nap and time to relax, I decided to "Venus de Milo" this thing. I weathered where the arms and leg were supposed to be and found a rather interesting stone here on campus. I spent the better part of two hours carving into the stone and used epoxy to make it stick down and into the hole. A few hours later, I removed a brick I used to keep the figure upright and tadah....he is now standing upright. In truth, it does have quite a bit of character to it considering the dynamic feel it has. Being only one leg, one would think the figure would topple over...so in the end, it gave it quite a more unique character than if it was complete.
