Style is more important than skill.
Some of the most technically skilled and accurate depictions of real life are also boring as hell.
Since this IS furaffinity, let me preface this by saying feet aren't my thing BUT GODDAMN YOUR HANDS/PAWS ARE SOOO CUTE AND I AVOID THE WORD CUTE LIKE BRUSSEL SPROUTS SO YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS AS AN AMAZING COMPLIMENT.

Style is more important than skill.
Without skill, style is nothing more than whatever elements are easiest to the artist being thrown together. And that isn't really much of a style, just a sign of laziness. Style is at it's best with skill because skill is ultimately a mix of knowledge and control. Without those two things, the cohesiveness of the style relies more on chance than on the artist's intent.
In other words, you've got it backwards.

Well, what I was referring to was an elite level of draftsmanship that most humans can't attain in these times of pollution and such.
But without skill you've got...modern art? A canvas painted entirely red, which actually hangs in a museum. To me, style is really just creativity, intuition, and expression, one of many kinds of skills. And amongst all those different skills, it is the only one that exists in all good art. That's why it's the most important to me.
To be sure, technical proficiency is important though. If you take that hypothetical situation all the way, a person without any technical skill wouldn't even be able to start up a car to pick up art supplies in the first place.

Odd, that. I thought the exact same thing, although that might be due to having an original painted cel of the Spunkster from the pilot up on the wall here. You get odd gifts when your sister was a wage slave intern at an art studio.
....
But there is an undefinable "Billism" there too! Needs a Billy and the Bwangers soundtrack.
