I seem to remember having seen this page, or one very similar, when you posted it. Why I didn't comment I don't know. But I do find the idea of a spar between someone who uses water and someone who uses ice to be quite interesting. From what I've seen of other elemental-based systems in other stories, the two powers are usually combined, with water users being able to use ice or water interchangeably. I do seem to recall being under the impression that there was some animosity between Lauren and Isabelle, or at least a rivalry, and I do kind of wonder if the similarity between their abilities is part of what sparked that. Either way, it's clear they're both quite talented, and inventive, and you get the impression that it would be far better to have either one of them on your side than to have to try to face them!
You'll have to take some time to peruse my other comics sometime too, should you be so inclined. :)
I know that often times they're used together but you never see anyone so inclined to use steam in the same way, even though if you can use water and cold water, why not super heated water? In any event, I knew that water and ice were going to be separate types in my world. They can be used together, if you have two users with the respective styles, but you only get one or the other. I recall that in Legend of Korra this is the case, and while I love what they've done I wanted it to be one type, one person in my world. Too many powers can get complicated, and it's what I feel caused the collapse of Heroes. Too many people with too many powers and not enough world building.
Lauren and Isabelle's relationship has changed a lot over the past few years. At first I thought they would be on opposite sides as seen here during an earlier version of the story. You can see here this was before I had any idea what Talwyn clothes looked like. Since then some masters have fallen on one side or the other, but Isabelle was in flux the most, going from the other side to our side to maybe switching sides, to finally being Lauren's rival. No doubt Isabelle had wanted to be chosen for water, but after that was no longer possible, the master of ice saw her potential and chose her for his own successor.
While at first Lauren and Isabelle particularly during their school years don't especially get along, during the war they come to realize how effective a team they make and become friends. Lauren is the more level headed of the two, while Isabelle is more emotionally driven, but they both have a significant impact on the story as a whole.
