A song I'm working on for the upcoming Cast No Stone album. Vocals haven't been done yet but they're well on their way. Been using a PRS S7 and a Traben 5 bass for these tracks. Really digging how it's sounding so far ^^

I like the harmonies you've worked in there. Lots of tasty riffs there!
One thing I noticed is your snare is sounding pretty dry. With some reverb it'll give it a bit more presence and make it sound fuller. If you do decide to put some/more just watch out, too much could muddle the nice pop you have goin' on there. Not sure how your drums are mixed/recorded but the toms could do with a bit more gain, they seem a bit backseat.
Looove when you open things up with the crash too, can't wait until your buddy comes through with the solo!

Glad ya like it! XD
Nothing is actually mixed yet, I leave my buddy to mix the final tracks after he puts in his solo work. This is just all the raw tracks, no effects no presets, just naked. And I think I will go back and change the velocity of the toms, I can see where that's noticeable.
Gonna be adding vocals probably in the next couple weeks, probably not gonna releasing the song out officially until the album comes out but I'll probably put it up on here :3

Very nice song, I look forward to hearing this with vocals, all mixed, etc. I like that it's got a coherent structure, that there is space for vocals and that it's got hooks in the melodies, something that I find lacking in a lot of modern metal.
The guitars, for me, could do with being a bit "punchier", maybe more "aggressive" sounding? It's a tight sound you've got though to be fair, so maybe it's just my ears and preferences coming across :P
May I suggest (if you haven't already) to record two tracks of guitar for both left and right (so four channels of rhythm in total)? I find that allows a few more options to play with EQs, as well as the benefit of potentially two different amps. I tend to have one that's quite low gain to provide the low end, then one a bit more high-gain to provide the bulk of the distortion (but whatever works, or whatever sound you feel you're after).
The only issue with this method is you have to play the same rhythm, really tight, four seperate times. With potentially multiple takes for each track, it's time consuming and tricky to do but I find it's worth it to have that soundscape to play with. Also, even if it's really tight, there will be slight imperfections in timing and things like that which will fill out the guitar sound and make it bigger and heavier.
I personally like to hear the bass cutting through a mix as well, it can add a lot to a song I feel and with the four-rhythm approach you can keep the guitars sounding big without having to lower the bass. What I used to do was compensate for my shitty bass sound by increasing the low-end frequency on the guitars, whereas now I can keep a decent low end frequency on the guitars without compromising the bass. If that makes sense :|

Thank you buddy! ^^ I'm really glad you like it.
As far as guitar tone goes, I'm going more so for a attack oriented guitar tone as opposed to distortion, most of the songs I write are "Not quite metal" songs so I like to keep a more alternative tone and let the low tunings contribute to half of the overall aggression.
With the set up I have, if I tried to record 2 rhythm tracks for both the left and right side it would probably sound waaaaaaay too muddy for my personal taste. And to be honest, even if I did want that full of a sound, I more than likely wouldn't have the time and/or patience to record 4 of the same rhythm track for just one song XD I do see how that can come to be useful when you're writing progressive metal riffs and trying to achieve more of a Devin Townsend like tone though.
The tuning that I usually write my songs (drop A) tends to provide enough low end for the guitars, I try to leave most of the low end to the bass considering it'll give plenty with it being in the same tuning, and a bass tuned in A is on the border line of non-audible as it is haha
I'm happy ya like it though :3 there's still plenty of mixing and mastering to be done to it, and Tony still needs to record his solo for that one part after the bridge/breakdown. When it's done and if i'm able to convert it to a low enough quality file I'll definitely upload it when it's finished. Though everyone else who's interested in hearing the song that isn't on FA will have to wait for the album to come out ;)
