More important detail to focus on, so its good to keep the background kind of plain.

Now thats just sloppy, unless she wasn't the real target...that or he doesn't want it to be too easy. A job you do well is one thing, but a job you do well and have fun doing is just so much better right?. *Gets bricked again*

Awesome artwork by the way, just because you don't have a background doesn't mean your lazy, it just means that the rest of the picture is important enough to go without those little details.

The lack of background actually works imo, it makes the characters the sole focus and increases the drama.

And the simple background IS better to let readers focus, as was stated by others.

As everyone has already said, the simple background lets you focus more on the characters.
And I love Arctics expression in that last panel.
