A Lucanus cervus in my room! =O_O'=
I was drawing, and heat of the day, 30° C (86° F), prompted me to open window this evening to have a little freshness in my room.
Suddenly a magnificent stag beetle ("lucane" or "Cerf-volant" in french) broke into my room to give me a little visit.
Not at all scared, she took the pose for the photo without moving.
This stag beetle is a male, recognizable by its huge mandibles.
He is about 6 cm in length (2.36 inches), but I've seen others whose size was much higher.
This is completely harmless, and it is a protected species because in extinction.
Usually, they make their appearance in early July, I'm amazed to see one so early.

From what I can see on the internet, it's in the larval stage that mainly feed on dead or rot wood.
When he metamorphosed into adulthood unfortunately, he life of its food reserves until mating and death. But the adult beetle can feed on nectar, however, fruits and tree sap to prolong his life.
I'll try to give him a small piece of banana, but I think he will not be interested.

Ahh.. Nectar hmmm, try watering down some honey if you've got it or dissolve some sugar or 'natural cane sugar' in water, I wouldn't give him artificial / low calorie sweeteners though. *shrugs* Or real fruit juice. Those would be my bet rather than fruits, I'd think by fruit they'd mean pears, apples, oranges, plums, that are close to going bad, juicy and sweet.
Et oui.... :(
