Description: Feared by desert nomads and adventurers alike, Cacturne feature in many a gruesome tale. It has many nicknames, such as Desert Death, Sandwizard, Nightdemon and in more northern parts where word of this pokémon came only through traders, the Murderous Scarecrow. These names all point to the fact that Cacturne is a mysterious and deadly pokémon – one who prefers to hunt humans. Their appearance is perfectly adapted to their environment: when standing still, they resemble roofed cactuses (of the Cereus family) to a stunning degree, hiding their eyes under their hoods. Many a traveller has gone completely paranoid by all the cactuses in the deserts where these pokémon live, imaging that they follow him to strike at night. This is not far from the truth, as Cacturne do seem to ‘spring alive’ after dark. However, they do not actually track prey during the day. As long as the merciless desert sun is shining, Cacturne stay perfectly still, to preserve energy and moisture. In this state, however, they are vulnerable. Usually, a lot of scars can be seen around Cacturne’s feet, where it is bitten by other animals and pokémon during the day. At night, they form small groups and search out their prey. They prefer large prey, which is not often found in the desert, hence their ‘fondness’ for humans. However, unlike some warnings say, Cacturne do not hunt humans exclusively nor are they invincible. When humans are not readily available, it will hunt anything it can find. Also, when given the choice between a healthy, alert human or an exhausted smaller prey, it will go for the easy to catch smaller prey. It is important when travelling, as desert nomads have long since found out, to always keep a large fire going and a sentry posted. Fire repels Cacturne. Once a group of Cacturne has surrounded its prey, they will pin it to the ground and eat it without bothering to kill it first, adding to its gruesome reputation. It has three rows of small, razor sharp teeth. One common myth about Cacturne is that its blood is actually made of sand. The basis in this myth lies in Cacturnes exceptional ability to control the fluids in its body. When a Cacturne is injured, it immediately withdraws all fluids from the area of the injury. The tissue around the area dries out almost instantaneously and crumbles to what appears to be sand. Once the injured area is gone, the Cacturne slowly rebuilds that part of its body. This has caused most Cacturne to be riddled with circular scars where old and new tissue meet. The dark green patches on Cacturnes skin are thick, leathery patches of skin that protect vital parts of their intestines. Female Cacturne have one large diamond shape on their abdomen protecting their reproductive organs. Shown here is a male Cacturne. Because of Cacturnes predatory nature, it is not very popular with trainers. Wild Cacturne are neigh untameable and are thus rarely used, though they are stronger than Cacturne evolved from Cacnea in captivity. Studying Cacturne is likewise exceptionally hard, as it will attack even when not hungry. They do not breed in captivity, so nothing is known about Cacturne’s breeding habits. Dissection of dead Cacturne has given some evidence that Cacturne neither lay eggs nor give birth to live young, but procreate by the use of seeds. Perhaps because of their reluctance to breed away from their natural environment, Cacturne have not yet managed to survive in any desert other than the one it hails from, and many governments will do their very best to insure this stays that way.
Okay, so the drawing is not very 'realistic' - but with some pokémon, this is the best you can do. I'm already fearing the day someone asks for Magnemite.

Dang that face is creepy! XD
Yeah, some pokemon would be a pain to draw realistically and this would be one of them. ^^; I think I may give a shot at drawing this guy realistically. I'm gonna need a ton of cactus and human references...and a buttload of patience. XD Magnamite would be so hard to do!
Breeding through seeds would be the perfect way for these guys considering they are cacti.

I sometimes wonder at when something is considered 'realistic'. Look at all the completely weird animals we have walking around on earth. We have beetles that can mix explosives in their bodies, insects that look like rose thorns, and just look at all the things that live in the ocean! Or, of course, the platypus. Nothings is as surreal as reality.
