Numaen Moon dragon.
These dragons live on Numae (pronounced, "Noo-may"), a small, white moon that orbits Koryan (my homeworld). These dragons are much like my kyn (some say they are a part of my kyn, and I don't doubt it). They have high levels of intelligence, and have their own draconic magick (mostly consisting of Moon and Light magick. Only a few know a few Dark magicks). They are telephathic, since they have no vocal chords, and do have echolocation. They are no bigger than a draft horse (their wingspan, however, is twice the length).
They have mantis arms, which are for spearing their food and holding it down. The extra pair on top do pretty much the same, but say this dragon was perched inside a large cave, and prey was approaching. Well, seeing as Numae has almost no gravity (that also goes for oxygen. Living on that moon is like living on Mt. Everest), the Moon dragon would perch itself on the cave ceiling, those extra arms spearing the top of the roof and holding it in place (until its prey comes into view).
Moon dragons are strictly liquivores. Their jaws don't open that wide (very similar to an anteater), and their mouths are just as tiny. Their tongue is very long, and has a hole at the end, with a spear below it (if viewed closely, anyone could see small barbs underneath this spear). Their diet, however, is widely ranged. They can go from drinking blood and liquified organs (yes, their feeding behaviors are similar to a fly), to fruits and other vegetation that can be easily liquified (of course, there's hardly that much vegetation on Numae). Oh, and that glowy thing at the end of their chin? That's used for both attracting prey and attracting potential mates. And yes, they do have three pairs of nostrils. It's for filtering in oxygen into their very thin lungs (much like fish and its gills).
And that's not skin you see on this one. It's actually skin-like armour. Since their planet is constantly exposed to UV rays and the like, they need protection against such extreme conditions. And their wings, which have no armour, are actually covered in a fine (and extremely small) feathery scales, much like a butterfly's wings. They're very shiny, and they absorb much of the sun's rays. The fin underneath the tail is not made of the same stuff. It's just regular skin (same with the crest). But that fin is used for balance while they fly. The crest is similar to a cockatiel (however you spell itz). They'll raise it if they feel threatened, angry or fending off rivals, and lower it when they feel defeated, sad, submissive, or when flying fast. It's its half-mast, they're pretty much in a neutral mood, or if they feel curious, and sometimes playful.
Now when a Moon dragon mates, it's quite possibly the most spectacular feat anyone can possibly witness. These dragons don't mate often (there's honestly not very many of them), and when they do, they mate either for life or they'll live with their mate until the hatchlings are fledged and left the nest.
Now what's so spectacular about the courthship of Moon dragons? Well, even though their mating flights are similar to the dragons of Koryan, there is a vast (and beautiful) difference. When the female chooses her mate, she takes off and flies into the skies, and usually well beyond the moon's extremely thin atmosphere. When the male successfully catches the female, they continue to fly (instead of dropping or flying back down the the ground), and fly towards the main planet, Koryan. At this point they will "skid" across Koryan's atmosphere, literally making "sparks fly" while in their mating flight. This creates what others think as flying stars or comets (this proves how strong a Moon dragon's armour-skin really is). Eventually they'll fly back to their moon-planet and start a family.
A Numaen Moon dragon's eggs are drastically different from regular dragon's eggs. They are sand-blotched white, thin and oblong-shaped (think of ant eggs). Now, here's the reason why there aren't so many Moon dragons. Since Moon dragons don't lay their eggs all at the same time, whichever hatchling hatches first, is basically gets to live, cuz when they're born, their hungry, and the only food they have is...well...their siblings still in the eggs. Sometimes more than one will hatch. But usually only 2-3 live (amongst 28+ eggs. These eggs are small, probably no bigger than a small ostrich egg). Hatchlings will not eat one another once they've hatched.
Oh yeah, not all Numaen Moon dragons go by the same colour (but they do look almost the same gender-wise), although they do go by their environment, which would be light pale colours, mostly ranging around greys, silvers, whites, tans, sand-colours, stuff like that...
Hope you can all tell that this one is not silver, but a light grey. His four arms and legs are silver, however. I'm not liking the fact that my scanner likes to eat the colour black.... -_-
Any questions? ^.-.^
