ABC will bring the Muppets back to television in their own primetime show. The new show, from "The Big Bang Theory" co-creator Bill Prady and Bob Kushell, will be shot in a mockumentary style like "The Office," complete with one-on-one interviews with various Muppet characters.
The Muppets where birthed by Jim Henson in 1955, with the first characters appearing on “Sam and Friends” from 1955 to 1961.[1]
CBS aired the original syndicated “The Muppet Show” from 1976 to 1981. Many celebrities appeared on that TV show over the years — including Peter Sellers, John Denver, Rita Moreno, Elton John, Diana Ross, Roger Moore, Mark Hamill, John Cleese and Dudley Moore..[1]
Kermit and Co. last appeared in their own TV series in 1996 on the short-lived “Muppets Tonight,” which aired for 10 episodes on ABC.[1]
The puppets have also starred in eight feature films, including “The Muppet Movie” (1979), “The Muppets Take Manhattan” (1984) and “The Muppet Christmas Carol” (1992), among others.[1]
Occasionally the adult Muppets make appearances on Sesame Street with the other Muppets.
For those who want a blast from the past, don't miss Elton John doing "Crocodile Rock" Muppet style(4 minutes). It is hilarious.
