This is another Compiz-Fusion effect, as I alt tab my programs slide by. These are not momentary images of the programs, these are the actual program displays. If there were a movie playing in there, or if someone typed something in my muck client, I would see it popup while I'm tabbing through proggies. Some of the other effects I'm using, but am not going to spam pictures of:
Desktop Cube with Skydome and GLX gears, it's background is similer to my dragon background, except with a picture of Tux instead. Cute tux!
Expo for rapid program selection
and this neat thing where all my desktops are lined up and I arrow through them
I also have fade setup so that when windows are rendered or derendered they fade in and out. I find it to be quite sexy and simple.
All this operates on my pc wonderfully smoothly, and considering my hardware is in general a couple years out of date, incredible. To give an idea, I'm still on AMD Athlon XP technology.

I am not a big fan of vista, i am more of a mac person. vista looks cool but sucks badly. where mac does this and still works in the process.
i like the pic though.
and i wouldn't post screenshots like that on here. i got in trouble for that. i am just saying watch out.

I'm not a vista fan either, it's bloated and wasteful. This isn't Mac, however, it's linux. Kubuntu is a linux distro, basically Ubuntu with KDE.
As far as this submission being troublesome, I don't think I compromised anyone's privacy, and I fall within fair use rights for all the artwork and systems put together make it go zoom, so I should be okay.

It took me a long time to make the switch to compiz and kde4. Before this I was a hardcore XFCE user. I knew a while back that I'd eventually make the switch to kde4 once it upped stability a bit- just so happened from kde 4.0 to 4.1 they really outdid themselves, it's rather rock solid now!
GLX rendered desktops, on the other hand, took much longer to mature. Technically the tech is still coming along but I feel it's now at a useable point. It used to give my computer trouble, but the devs have really put their noses to the grindwheel and have improved stability, functionality, customizability, and resource consumption. I'm pretty pleased. I do occasionally get odd issue, but that's more due to the fact that I'm using a lot of cutting edge techs on my desktop right now.

Vista can do almost the exact same thing, if you hit WindowsKey + tab, it lines up your windows in a similar fashion, you can arrow through them or click on a window with your mouse to bring it to the forefront. And they are live windows too, they will play movies and you see changes.
I'm not saying Vista is better, I've also run Gentoo, Sabayon, mint, and ubuntu. I'm just saying it's standard in Windows now too
I haven't tried KDE4 since 4.0, is 4.1 stable for you?

As a side note, thank you for the information about vista's features, but at what point did I state vista couldn't do any of this? The closest that I've come is calling vista bloated. I just realized how extraneous that statement was by you and I'm having a hard time understanding it's purpose.
Sorry, I get kinda defensive, one of my pet peeves is people who glorify linux and brag bout how awesome their ubuntu install is, and how all linux is better than windows, when they haven't done anything more than double click an install icon, and use apt-get twice.
I realize this isn't you, you've done work to get it to look this cool; and yea, you wern't 'window sucks!' it was just me being stupid
I'm glad KDE 4.1 is good, i really don't like gnome, it's all brown... and weird... mabey I've gotten too used to KDE 3.5, always takes me a while to find things on gnome desktops

One of the reasons I went to XFCE is because gnome is outdated and limited while KDE was ugly. It looks like windows with a fatter task bar. XFCE on the other hand was quite simple to mod to look decent, not as easy as kde4 was, but at the time it was the best. It was also very minimalist on resources. Working with XFCE, I'd click 'login' and be sitting there going 'wait what?' as my desktop is already loaded, it was fricking instant load time It took me longer to type my password than it took to load that sucker. -.-
XFCE, you are god, you are my first love. *sniffles* But kde4 just looks better.
