Random little piece that came about as the result of a conversation with a friend regarding an episode of the SyFy show "FaceOff" - how the various challenges given to the competitors would make good prompts or even just inspiration for drawings. In this case, the focus was on an episode in which the challenge was to select a wand and design the character who used it. We both decided to pick the same wand and see what we would end up creating. The wand was made of wood, with a chicken foot holding an eye at the end of it.
My design was a very bird-like character - perhaps they had been human once and lost their humanity somewhere along the way, or perhaps they had always been this way. This character steals the eyes of humans, for multiple reasons - if a single eye is stolen, perhaps they can spy on humans via the survivor's remaining eye; the eyes are also a means of power and control, with eyes being linked to the soul, and those who have their eyes stolen (and survive) may thus be used as tools, or as a source of power, suffering a slow death as their life force is used up by the one who stole their eyes.
The name "ornis" simply coming from the word for "bird".

This is creepy as shit, and I'm in love with it.
The detail is absolutely gorgeous. What drew me in first was actually the background. I also have to agree and express my love for the eyes as well. The pose, claws, and even the seemingly friendly face are all things that really jump out at me.
So awesome
