Jim Henson, September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990
Hi Jim Henson. Just thinking of you today.
Thank you for all you brought to my life.
Jim Henson produced an enormous body of works, most included anthropomorphic animals. You may know him best for creating Kermit the Frog, The Muppets, or for his work on Sesame Street. Earlier in life when I was having some bad times, I saw his "Emet Otter's Jug Band Christmas". It helped me believe there was some goodness left in the world. "Dark Crystal" (1982) and "Labyrinth" (1986) movies were amazing and showed me you can do great things despite opposition. I also hold special memories for his television series "The Storyteller", "The Muppet Show", and "The Fraggels". His art was amazing and would draw you into the story like few others.
When Jim Henson died suddenly, there were many tributes. But the saddest of all was the song "A Boy and His Frog" by Tom Smith. There is also a statue of Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog seated on a red granite bench at the University of Maryland, College Park, Henson's alma mater.
But Jim Henson not only contributed to puppetry, animatronics, and early fursuit acting; but to computer science. Kermit the computer protocol for data transfer was named after Kermit the Frog. Kermit was big stuff for computer hobbyist and professionals in the 1980's. Ah, I remember it well.
He did so much, I am sure you have your favorites too. So let’s celebrate today by watching some of his works and reliving the good feelings he gave us. Links to the ones I mentioned are below and many others are on YouTube.

So true. But that was Jim Henson, always working outside the box. He always seemed to be pushing the envelope to see how to get more production value. When he did "Dark Crystal" the powers to be told him it was technical impractical and was too far out to be a financial success if he did manage to pull it off. But he proved them wrong again. I think that is what makes his work so special, it does not go along with the "way things are done". Even his early "Sam and Friends" ,available on YouTube, was so much more advanced than 1961 with the complex humor and emotions.
Are you sure? I did a quick Internet search (about 15 minutes) and that statement seems to be an urban legend. Here are a few of the things I found
"Henson grew up in Christian Science, even teaching Sunday school as a young adult."
"... however, Henson reportedly distanced himself from his church as he grew older ..."
"The urban legend that Henson died because of Christian Science-based refusal to receive medical care is just that: an urban legend."
source:http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2011/novemberweb-only/gospeljimhenson.html
"He remained a Christian Scientist at least into his twenties when he would teach Sunday School but fifteen years before he died he wrote to a Christian Science church to inform them he was no longer a practicing member."
"Although it is rumored that his Christian Science faith prevented him from visiting the hospital, his stepmother and others deny this, as he had ceased practicing in his early 20s."
