I've always had a soft spot for Alfred J. Kwak. It's a lovely children's series. For years now, I've had several story lines in my head that would make perfect episodes* - about the disastrous influence of rabbits in Australia, the stealing of Egyptian historical treasures etc. One of those involves this character, Pikkie (I believe Grabbie, in English) the magpie, being arrested for the Nth time for thievery and being sent to a psychiatric hospital to get him to quit stealing.
Pikkie has always been one of my favorite characters from the show, even though he only features in 10 episodes or so. In the AJK-universe, magpies have a genetic condition that causes kleptomania. They completely lose their mind when they see something that glitters (the left head), steal it and hide it somewhere. I always felt so sad for him. He can't help his stealing, but half the people want to see him locked up for it anyway. The other half defends him by saying 'he is very ill'. How would you like that, to be constantly stigmatised as a mental patient? He also starts out as a little boy with such a cute, high-pitched voice - and then his adult voice actor gives him this raw voice, as if he's been drinking and smoking too much. Which would totally fit the AJK-universe.
Okay, so I over-think these things. In any case, I did a redesign of Pikkie. In the cartoon, he has orangy greenish legs/beak (which makes no sense, magpies have black legs/beak) and his wings are completely black. I think that's a shame, because magpies have such lovely wings! Although I screwed up on them anyway: their wingtips are supposed to be white, not their elbows.
Obiously, I don't own Alfred J. Kwak in any way.
* = well, I'd consider them perfect. As far as fanfic goes, that's all that matters.

This is very lovely drawing of him! It was good idea to be more faithful with the magpie's real colours than just copying the cartoon's colours. :) Shame that they left out the blue colour...magpies look so beautiful with it. ^^ And shame that they stopped doing the AJK series. :( It was the best cartoon I've ever wathced!
