I Am Aqueous – TV show outline
I Am Aqueous is an action, sci-fi drama, starring Aqueous, a liquid machine and his efforts to maintain his humanity, but also become the weapon that he is to disrupt the efforts of various parties from destroying him or recreating him and using his power for evil.
Aqueous in appearance, is a transparent blue liquid, in a roughly human shape. He is somewhat of a shapeshifter. He can’t turn into people or random objects, but he can melt down into a formless puddle and slip under doors or turn his hand into a simple tool. Bullets can pass right through him, if he splatters into a hundred pieces he can reform and with concentration he can harden himself like steel. Along with a host of other abilities, Aqueous’ body was meant to house an AI and be the perfect soldier. However, the programmer in charge of the AI gave the body gave the mind of his made up son. This child’s mind was named Ozzy Belway and as far as he knew, he was a cancer child that one day woke up one day as a liquid shapeshifting thing. The plan back fired and Ozzy soon learned everyone involved in this, Project Sol, wanted nothing but power, his power. One by one, Ozzy destroyed the secret labs and silenced anyone who worked there, including his so called father and all of his superiors.
Ozzy knew the evil potential his abilities would hold in the wrong hands, because there was another AI dissolved into his body, named Gunn, one that wanted nothing but to kill everyone. So if Ozzy ever lost control, he would be forced to feel blood mix with his liquid, powerless to stop it. Ozzy eventually destroyed Gunn and every last scrap of Project Sol. He has embraced what the news has called him, Aqueous, and now tries to live out his “childhood” fantasy of being a superhero.
Over 20 years since Aqueous first became aware and 2 years since the last Project Sol lab was destroyed, and the show begins here. Suddenly everything is happening all at once. Most people believe Aqueous exists and so does international technology giant Everest Technologies. They have stumbled across the lab Aqueous destroyed 2 years prior and are intent on making their own liquid machine as they call them. Luckily for Aqueous, the exact process for creating him has been lost, so the best Everest can do are machines with wires or spheres in them that manipulate magnetic liquid. If those cheap knock offs were all Aqueous had to handle it would be easy for him, but there’s a private militia of angry individuals Aqueous (or Gunn) has harmed in the past and crafted a wide range of weapons that can seriously harm Aqueous. Then of course, there’s the FBI, hunting him down because he’s a vigilante and needs to be arrested.
*** So here is the whole mechanic or struggle for the show. Aqueous cannot regenerate his liquid, it’s a finite resource, so when going into battle with militia, FBI or other liquid machines, he has to be very quick and effective. He’ll be exploding into a spider web, shooting a hundred tendrils of goo, disarming soldiers for example and that take a lot of concentration. Aqueous is, however, a machine technically, and can program these techniques into himself and store them for when they are needed. Here’s the problem though, his mind is physically a powder dissolved into the liquid that is his body and his AI, his hard drive as you will, had limited space. He actually maxes out his brain very early in the series and he learns that he must delete his memories in order to store more battle data and become a better weapon. Even though his humanity is artificial, it’s all he is and he holds onto the person that is Ozzy Belway with all his heart. But as the odds get stack higher and higher against him, he literally has to lose his humanity to become more powerful. He literally has to become the very thing he is fighting against in order to stop it. This will be a constant struggle for him, whether the memory is real or an old coded in memory, he needs to choose to delete it for more battle tactics.
Aqueous does have a few allies in his fight. The FBI agent in charge of tracking him down is the good kind of corrupt and frequently helps Aqueous out, while masquerading as a semi-competent agent. Aqueous has a “father” who created his mind, but he also had a “mother” who helped create his body. She had died at the hands of Gunn, but her daughter lives on. So Aqueous befriends his sort-of sister and she remains Aqueous’ source of humanity. There’s even a legion of Aqueous fans that might even help out from time to time.
There will be plenty of sub plots and it would be an ensemble cast, switching between Aqueous, his foes, his allies and even just random people on the street, witnessing all that has been happening. Plus a few villains that might start off small, but gestate into a real threat for seasons in the future.
