Yeah. A lot of people think of chasing as an extreme sport. That's precisely the wrong way to think about it; it's a hobby that requires a great deal of care, patience, and dedication. It also can easily verge into the realm of amateur science, if you aren't one of the meteorologists getting paid to do the gig.
And decent storm chasers will also stop to assist if the tornado hits a populated area. So, community service, too.

chasing twisters is something i definitely want to do some time :D
As a child my parents drove down into a rain wrapped twister, the car was about 80ft from the twister, couldn't see a thing but we heard and felt it (EF1/weak EF2)
then again, nobody in Europe does know what to do with a twister, most believe they don't happen, so cant blame them :P
